More on Global Warming

Paglia's stance is typical of the pseudo-intellectual who wants to take a contrarian position by out-sciencing the scientists. Unfortunately, it really is the case that the vast majority of scientists in the relevant fields of study agree that global warming is happening, and it is largely due to human activities - specifically to the addition of carbon-dioxide to the atmosphere, by the burning of fossil fuels.

People have generated lots of alternative arguments, which they use to fight this conclusion. The most common is the one Paglia advertises, "It's due to solar cycles." CP, it's not: solar luminosity has not changed as much as 1 part in 1000 in the last 20 years, so you can't blame GW on that.

A good place where the most popular 53 of these skeptical arguments are presented and then de-bunked by reference to actual science: http://www.skepticalscience.com/argument.php

It's good to know

that Obama is listening to two very prominent critics of his policies.

He will still have to make his own decisions, based on his best judgment as to what will work politically.

However, at least he's not ignoring contrary advice.
