In Clinton and Obama, the Democrats have an "embarassment of riches." What the Democrats, and for that matter, the vast majority of the American electorate seem to want, is either an Obama/Clinton ticket or a Clinton/Obama ticket.
The longer the primary voting goes on, the more the two will become "married" to each other.
With the two of them running on the same ticket in November, supporters of both will be able to vote for their candidates.
Meanwhile, the repub "Dream Team" will consist of McCain and . . . who? Mike Huckabee? Sean Hannity? Lynne Cheney? Jeb Bush? James Dobson? Condi Rice?
Or, to put it yet another way, Tom Tomorrow could draw a strip about a different Dubya/republican lie every Sunday for the next 10,000 years.
You get what you pay for in this life, my friend. That is if you do, indeed, pay. If you engage the services of a prostitute and then refuse to pay her, you get Instant Karma: her pimp instantly shows up and beats you to a pulp.
Or so I've been told . . .
Harlan Ellison sounds like Garrison Keillor's evil twin. I don't mean that in a bad way. It's just that I met G.K. at a booksigning once, and he really was as nice a guy as he makes himself out to be on the radio.
Another thing that makes G.K. the opposite of H.E. is that I can't imagine G.K. sleeping with over 700 women, or talking about it, if he had--that famous Midwestern modesty and all, you know.
But I remember a time when any famous writer--no matter what he looked like--could get all the action he wanted.
Again, not to make judgments one way or the other.
I've not read any of H.E.'s work, but upon finding out today that he's a committed liberal, I'm now a big fan.
Does anybody remember the photo of the Chinese person standing defiantly in front of the tank in Tienamen Square? Can somebody remind me what that image was supposed to represent? A single, brave person confronting an evil, monolithic war machine?
I don't get it.
The first time they made "Lost" was in the 60s. It was called "Gilligan's Island."
When the author states that there are 2,000 chimps in America, is she counting the one who lives in the White House?
Keep voting republican, suckers!
"You" don't "get" to have sex with hookers and then kill them when "you" play Grand Theft Auto. "You" "get" to manipulate a plastic device which moves pixels around on a TV screen.
If that's "your" idea of Reality, then good luck with all that. Have fun getting all self-righteous about moving pixels around on a screen.
In the meantime, "you" keep voting republican.
When I first saw the title, I thought this was an excerpt from Jenna Bush's memoirs.
Even if it's supposed to be ironic, the title of this article, "Little girls gone wild," is as exploitative and stupid as any of the sexually-suggestive "products" mentioned here.
Whether she's a prostitute in Cambodia, or a trick-or-treater in suburban America, any little girl who is dressed in suggestive, inappropriate clothing is being exploited by someone. What's sad is that most likely, in both cases mentioned above, she's being exploited by one or both of her parents.
The issue is not "how young is too young?" The issue is exploitation. Any parent who tries to live out his or her fantasies through his or her children is exploiting them--and setting them up for a life of exploitation by others.
The other point I want to make is that fortunately for people in marketing and people who write books like this, the American public has no memory of anything that's happened in the past. Otherwise, they would remember how a little girl named Brooke Shields was exploited 25 years or so ago in exactly this same way, and they would know that there is no such thing as a "shocking new trend."
Hey, republicans! We feel your McPain!
BWAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
Mercy for the team that stole the last two championships? Sorry, but I'm not feelin' it. Nor should we even think about a 4-game sweep.
As another sports fan noted above, The Reps can always depend on Racism to put up good numbers when it counts. And the presence of Spike Lee at courtside rooting for Big O and the Dems will, I'm sure, inspire Racism to take his game to at least the next level, if not beyond.
I've heard a rumor that one of the Reps' veteran starters, Holy Roller, is in a contract dispute with the Reps, and may sit out the season. But I don't buy that for a second. Roller's never been the sharpest knife in the drawer, and the Reps know from long experience that his ego's so big he'd play for free--just for the chance to see himself in a highlight clip on cable TV. The only mystery to me is why the Dems keep trying to get Roller to switch teams. They should know by now that Roller would never play for the Dems, even if Jesus Christ Himself was their head coach.
