  • Bush Voters Awake!

    Joan,

Please don't ever be intimidated by those who want "the whole ball of wax" RIGHT THIS SECOND. The last thing we need, as you said, is a "circular firing squad." The overriding goal is to end the killing, period. Of course I don't like "spineless" Democrats and am quite disappointed. One of my closest friends who I argue with endlessly always winds up saying "If it doesn't play in Peoria it isn't going to happen." You seem to understand that and the fundamental fact that whatever Pres. we elect that gets us into a war---it's almost impossible to stop it once we're there. Therefore, the people that voted for Bush for TWO TERMS, need to reassess the way they vote and check closely for the blood on their hands.

  • GOP's filibusters

    Glenn,

You're absolutely right concerning the media's almost deliberate failure to accurately describe the Republican's tactics as being filibusters.

My question is, why have the Democrats not demanded or put into play the rules which would result in the Republican's actually having to go through the physical process of an actual filibuster? If they would do that, just once, it would be impossible for the media to ignore and it would put the Republicans on notice that the majority was going to hold them accountable for their obstructionism.

  • Please, tell us what to do.

    Glenn,

Good work on Amy's this morning. Any of your readers are completely familiar with the script. The total abdication of any comprehensive, accurate and investigative journalism by the MSM is basically complete. Unfortunately, we can not replace our journalists as we can our politicians. Just look at guys like Broder, Wills, Brooks, etc. They're all in their 12th term or more and unlikely to even retire in the distant future. The perks, the cocktail parties, the adulation--all something they might miss if they had to retire. We can't fire them--their publishers won't fire them and so they'll chatter on and on doing quite a bit of damage to the average American's mind. I know the blogs are tremendously important but how can we push the envelope further? Pressure their venues? What? It's a real crisis. Journalism no longer exposes and protects the people. It shills for the government. This is exactly what happens in any authoritarian government. Help!
