barry bonds
[Read the article: McCain backs Imus, but not Bonds]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I'm an old white guy. When Jackie Robinson joined the Dodgers, my older brother said "wow. he can play as good as any white guy". We laughed about that line over the years, but it came back to me when reading the above responses to Joan's blog. The media has made much of Bond's alleged use of steroids, but little of Armstrong's. Most of the above responses simply find him guilty and dismiss his achievement. The smell of unconscious racism is hard to ignore. The fact is that Barry Bonds has hit more homers than anybody else and Armstrong has won the Tour de France seven times and nobody can take that away. Steroids wouldn't have turned any of us into either man. Joan, I loved your blog. Finally, someone got it just right.

Thanks Joan
[Read the article: Obama and the white working class]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Thanks. Joan. for this piece of wisdom. Knowing where you're coming from, this was a brave attempt to widen the horizons of all democrats. Obama's ability to explain what he meant is what attracts many of us to him. I am for Obama, but if Hillery is the nominee, I will happily support her. When you compare either of them to the Republicans, to my mind, there is no contest. Let's stop the partisan infighting and let the primaries work out as they will. We all have a lot to do before November.
