The DNA of a fetus . . .

. . . is different from the DNA of the mother. It is NOT your body. It is NOT your choice.

I'm pro-choice, actually. I believe a woman has the right to choose who she has sex with, when, and whether or not they use contraception. If you're pregnant and unhappy about it, go bitch to nature for giving you a uterus. Tough cookies. Take some responsibility.

@ Brightstar

Please, the problem is not AMERICAN WOMEN. The problem is AMERICANS. As the post above your's points out, it takes two to tango. A MAN and a WOMAN. So before you go blaming American women for everything, look in the mirror, my friend.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not hating on America. I fought to defend this country, and I'd rather be here than in a lot of of other countries. Look at Iran. Do you think they could do that to us here? No, because people would be shooting back at the police. But, I digress. The point is, we've become a very selfish society. We've mistaken liberty for the right to do whatever the hell we want whenever we damn well please.

Abortion is a case-in-point. Two people decide they wish to engage in sexual relations. In the modern world, we have definitively linked sexual intercourse with pregnancy. We also realize that contraception is not 100 percent reliable. So, two mature, responsible people should be aware of the pleasure-to-risk interplay going on here and make a responsible decision.

But, something goes wrong! The condomn breaks, and she's pregnant. Now HE wants to run away, and SHE wants to murder her child. And yet these are supposed to be two responsible people! Sorry, but you have to deal with the consequences of your decisions.

I ride a motorcycle nearly every day. I do not own a car. I could own a car if I so chose, but I choose to ride a motorcycle for a variety of reasons. I realize it is not nearly as safe a form of transportation as is a car, but I do it anyway. And if I decide to go down to the bar tomorrow and tie one on, then ride home, and I get hit by a truck and die, whose fault is that? Maybe if I had been sober and in an SUV, I'd be alive, but that's my choice, and it's too late now.

The choice is made prior to the consequence, not after it. Both a man and a woman give up autonomy over their bodies when they join them together. Live with your decisions, people.

It's MY choice . . .

. . . to put a bullet in the head of the cellphone-yacking jackass driver who just about ran me over. Too bad if you don't like it. I don't owe you an explanation.

Keep your goddamned moralizing out of my personal decisions!

All this talk about "autonomy"

is bunk. A woman is not an autonomous being, because she is a person, and there is no such thing as an autonomous human being. Every action of any human being (or any sentient being, really) has an effect on the world. The idea of "autonomy," for any person, is a lie of the "me" mentality pervading our society.

@ Joyce

Yes, Joyce, it is, to a large extent, about trusting a woman to make her own reproductive decisions. And a woman who is irresponsible enough to require an abortion obviously cannot be trusted to make those decisions. I'm sure I'll be blasted as being a sexist for this, but answer me this: Why does being female abdicate someone from acting in a responsible manner? I'm guaranteed the right to keep and bear arms under the second amendment. Now, if I go running down the street waving my pistol around and firing it in the air, I will quickly lose that right, because I've demonstrated I can't act responsibly. I've violated the trust which has been placed in me to act as a responsible person. So why do we defend the "right" of women to act irresponsibly?

@ marc

How are Rosen's arguements "emotional" and "non-sensical?" They are sound, factual examples of when constitutional rights have been restricted in the cases of people who cannot exercise them responsibly. Abortion isn't even a right guaranteed in the Constitition. So if a felon can't be trusted to own a gun, then maybe a woman who decides she wants an abortion because her baby will be born under the wrong zodiac sign can't be trusted to make her own reproductive decisions.

@ marc

No, actually, there is nothing in Constitution or in the Bill of Rights which explicitly states, "A woman shall have the right to abortion." This is a cut and dry fact. You are wrong. Fail.

Also, I'm a person who has served honorably in this nation's armed forces, so you can take that un-American comment and shove it up your ass.

Sunday, June 21, 2009 11:32 AM

@ marc

No, you are again wrong. White supremacists are NOT allowed to serve in the military. They try it, and when found out, are discharged under other-than-honorable conditions. Also, the Supreme Court is NOT the Constitution. You're talking about legal precident here. The fact remains, there is nothing in the Constitution which explicitly guarantees a right to abortion.

FAIL.

A person who views a baby as a parasite

is a disgusting person indeed.

@ marc

If you actually read the article, it's about how some people get away with breaking the rules. Affiliation with extremist groups is prohibited to people who serve in the armed forces. It is a black and white regulation. Period. We all know some people get away with crimes, though . . .

Again, I'm not arguing with you on the role of the Supreme Court. Yes, the Supreme Court interprets the laws. The only thing I'm saying here is that the Constitution does not EXPLICITLY state a right to abortion. The courts interpreted other laws to come to their conclusion. If it was stated explicitly in the first place, there would be no need for interpretation.

Please read and understand people's posts in their totallity before you attack them. It seems you are purposely misreading what I'm writing here.
