  • Two sides to the coin

[Read the article: Somebody sent child protective services to my house!]

If you want to read a scary story about the child protective system gone awry, read "They called me a child pornographer: I took some photos of my kids naked on a camping trip. A drugstore employee called the police -- and my family's life became a living hell." -- http://www.salon.com/mwt/feature/2006/07/18/photos/index.html

On the other hand, just yesterday we had a story in the local paper that brought tears to my eyes, about a father who beat his 2-year-old to death trying to "discipline" her for not saying please, thank you, and yes sir.

  • Honor indeed

[Read the article: John Edwards exits with honor]

I really like John Edwards, especially since he had the honesty and the courage to say "I was wrong" about voting for the Iraq war. I read in Newsweek, I think it was, about how he had to fight his political advisors to say that -- "I was wrong" -- when he wrote an op-ed piece for the Washington Post (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/11/11/AR2005111101623.html).

But how can anyone run against history in the making? We will have either our first women or our first black presidential candidate in our country's history, and hopefuly either the first woman or first black president. Hard to compete against that.
