Lieberman is keeping his post as it forces him to vote the way Obama and co. want him to vote. If Joe does something the democratic leadership doesn't like, Lieberman will be taken out and put in charge of trash collection in the parks.
Before when he kept the dems in their slim majority, Lieberman held the dems hostage with "do as I say or I am out." Now Obama can say "Do as I say or you are out."
Kicking Lieberman out may feel good, but keeping him in ensures one more vote on important issues. His humiliation will be private, not public, but he is now in a very different situation than a few months ago.
The republicans got s good kick in the teeth, but the big companies who want pliable tools in power have not (all) gone away. The republicans will bounce back to cause more damage after the democrats get the American people fat and happy again.
Obama and company need to act as if they are not going to investigate anything. They can change their tune on Jan 21, but for now they need to act as if the things done by Bush is water under the bridge. Bush can give pardons to anyone he wants, and naming names at this point is extremely counterproductive.
Bush will pardon himself and everyone else, of course, but Obama shouldn't give him an excuse.
BTW, can Obama just ignore pardons and grab people anyway? Can he attach a signing statement to the pardons after the fact? The executive branch seems to be able to ignore he law and the constitution, so why not in this case?
If Camille wants to suck off the fame of a famous woman, she could pick a better woman. Picking Palin will generate letters, I suppose. Paglia has descended to the level of common net trolls. Oh well.
GM crushed it's future existence when it destroyed the electric cars. They had the lead. They had the future. They tossed it in the trash. Goodbye!
And we all know where that gets you. The speaking tour circuit.
To get a qualified black man into the right place at the right time. Without the disastrous reign of Bush and the terrible campaign of McCain, we would not have seen the first African American president. The deaths around the world and the economic destruction of America for the past eight years has yielded a silver lining, and I am glad to see this moment.
One thing that would actually fix the problem, i.e. renegotiating the variable rate mortgages to a low fixed rate, is dismissed by both parties. Lowering the interest rates would prevent foreclosures, prop up housing prices, and make many of the "bad" loans into "good" loans. Instead of helping the banks by helping the homeowners, the government is just giving cash to the banks who will get the taxpayer money and the houses. This bill is clearly designed to rip people off, and should be voted down.
After the election many people will switch their votes and this ripoff will occur, but at least it will be delayed. The horrible meltdown will somehow not happen until after the election, of course, but it will still be an emergence in a month.
So, people afraid of losing reelection didn't vote for a bill that is unpopular with their constituents. In other words, democracy worked.
I for one want to know:
A: What is the actual problem that this money is supposed to address?
B: How will this bailout solve the problem, if there is in fact such a large problem?
I simply don't trust Bush and company at all. Just because Bush claims that there is some sort of vague financial problem that requires all of our money doesn't mean that I believe him. I want more trustworthy sources to describe the issue and the solution before Congress blows 700 billion dollars on some scheme.
If this election were about the issues, McCain would be polling at 30%. Obama can't talk about "Regulatory Issues" and win, he needs to talk about how McCain strangles kittens for fun or some such thing. The McCain campaign has taken blatant dishonesty to a new level, and it is working like gangbusters.
I wonder when reality will be too hard for voters to ignore. Apparently never. That McCain is even on the map is amazing. That he is ahead is proof that way too many Americans are not paying attention. I guess the people who voted for Bush haven't gotten more of a clue despite the beating they have taken for the past 8 years.
As the American people love to be lied to, Obama should just go with it. He should start up a whisper campaign about McCain and Palin's insatiable hunger for the flesh of unbaptized babies. I am looking forward to a talking head asking McCain "Have you stopped eating babies?"
I want to see the Greek and Norse creation stories in science class. Both refer to a race of malevolent giants, scientists need to get to work figuring out where those giants are so we can Nuke them! I consider every word of the Norse creation story and myths to be absolute truth BTW.
Why the creation/evolution debate always revolves around the rather bland middle eastern creation stories is beyond me.
BTW, I like the global flood story in the original Babylonian setting with the Babylonian gods doing the flooding than the Jewish version. A bunch of gods acting at cross purposes always made more sense than a single god who keeps changing his mind.
Someone could ask her questions like:
Do you think the Earth is closer to 6000 or 4.5 billion years old?
Do you think that the Iraq war is God's will?
Are you in favor of banning birth control?
And similar questions.
