Incorrect?
[Read the article: Slipping and sliding on white phosphorus in Fallujah]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I love the line:
"The story most people around the world have is that the Americans are up to their old tricks -- committing atrocities and lying about it," Pike says. "And that's completely incorrect."
Actually, that is exactly what happened. US soldiers burned civilians to death with white phosphorus, and then lied about it. There were too many photos and eyewitnesses for the lies to stand, however.

Oh, grow up
[Read the article: Dancing as fast as she can]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Madonna has reached a huge milestone with her latest hit, why can't we be happy for her success? Why does Camille Paglia feel the need to try and tear her down? Agism? Jelousy? Madonna is a pop singer with lasting fame and success in a world where pop singers' fortunes melt faster than an ice sculpture in a volcano. Madonna clearly has something on the ball.
If you want to throw rocks at aging rock stars, the Rolling stones are even older and having less commercial success these days than Madonna. That said, they still have more musical talent in their little fingers than Camille Paglia could ever hope to match with her writing.

Egad
[Read the article: Camille Paglia's disco playlist]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Why should anyone care what Camille Paglia listens to? What kind of a discussion does she think she is going to ignite by posting a playlist typical for a Clear Channel golden oldies radio station?
If this list of 1970's music says anything, it is that Camille Paglia stopped listening to new music a looong time ago.

What can people or our allies do?
[Read the article: America can't take it anymore]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]As long as the US military keeps following these illegal orders, Bush and co. are untouchable. Our allies will do their best to ignore this for three years until the US gets a new president and we stop torturing people.
I am very dissapointed in the US military power structure and the CIA leadership for not telling Bush and Cheney to go fly a kite when they were ordered to abduct and torture people. If the military and CIA are this quick to secretly torture and kill suspects, then the US is much closer to falling into facism than we would like to think.

Given the choice between an imitation republican and a real one..
[Read the article: Jolting Joe]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The republicans will chose the real one each time. If the democratss try to act like republicans they are going to lose, and lose badly.
Oh, wait, the democrats DID imitate republicans in the last election, and they DID lose badly. Why are people still talking about this again?

Manufactured outrage
[Read the article: Rotten judgment in the state of Denmark]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]TV and radio personalities in the US say worse things about islam every day, without incident. The real story here is on who it was who decided to dig up an old cartoon from a small European country in a language few people speak and turn it into a worldwide "outrage." Free dailies in NYC probably have a larger readership than the Danish newspaper that printed the cartoons.

Power density
[Read the article: Blowing away the nukes]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]A nuclear power plant large enough to power a city fits on a small area while wind farm with enough power to power a city would be impractically large. The environmental effect of devoting that much space to wind farms around every major city would be disasterous.
Also, you can't have your power grid depend on a power source thatyou have no control over. On a still summer day, the air conditioners would fall dead. If you want to use massive banks of batteries to store energy for low-wind days, nuclear is far better for the environment.
Wind is cute for some things, but it is bad for the environmnet and impractical for large scale power generation.

Very good
[Read the article: Camille and Cintra call the Oscars]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I am happy that Camille Paglia has finally found her level. Joan Rivers would have been a better choice, of course, but you take what you can get.

You were expecting what, exactly?
[Read the article: Oscar castrates himself]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Wow, the oscars weren't thrilling. Oh my god, look out. The Tony awards were pretty dull too, I imagine. This is an awards show, what do you want them to do? Swear like sailors and scream "Down with government!"? Do people dream of some golden time when the Oscars were edgy and cool? If there has ever been such an Oscar night, I have never seen it. There is only so much you can do with reading lists of names and then listening to the winner quickly saying thank you to a long list of people.
Jon Stewart did better thna many hosts, and the negative advertising spoofs were dead on. Reese won afterall, with her good "American" name in these times of war.

Bored Now
[Read the article: I, Nanobot]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]How did tripe like this get on to Salon? Not every day can be great, but this is a bit below the standards Salon should set for itself.

Already obsolete
[Read the article: Shark and awe]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The US military is an expensive toy that isn't even capable of conquering a small, weak nation so we can steal it's natural resources. In this post 1945 age when a person with a smuggled nuclear weapon can wipe out a city, things like aircraft carriers, tanks, and jets are about as useful as badly trained sharks.
It is all a boondoggle, but it isn't going away anytime soon.

Was Thor realy killed by Jormungander?
[Read the article: Jesus: The coverup]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Or dd Thor fake his own death and run off with a female elf?
These are religious myths, trying to find the "truth" is silly.

The US is already backwards and low tech
[Read the article: The corporate toll on the Internet]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Wht stop our falling behind now? If the government cared about the US and the internet they would allow municiple broadband wireless. As it is we have to go through monopolies to get slow service.
The US doesn't get the good cars, the good cell phones, or the good internet connections. Things are going to get worse before they get better.
