Asshole vs. confident
[Read the article: Cindy McCain goes after Obama]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Why do the Republicans always nominate assholes?
Seriously. This is what is wrong with the Republican party and its supporters and pundits and radio shock jocks. They cannot run decent and uplifting campaigns. All they ever do is employ the politics of personal destruction against their political opponents, and then turn around and accuse their opponents of the very same slimeball tactics that they use as a matter of course.
The Republican Party needs to go the way of the Whigs, the sooner the better.
It's because many people, and most Republicans, confuse assholeness with strength and confidence.

Perhaps,
[Read the article: 2012: Year of the woman? ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]but I don't believe Sarah Palin will be very competitive. I think she'll be lucky to get re-elected as governor of Alaska, much less run a viable campaign for president.
If Obama loses to St. McCain we might see Hillary again, but I don't think he'll lose.
-
Of course McCain lost!
[Read the article: This town hall didn't help John McCain]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]That was evident in how quickly the Ice Queen, Cindy McCain, ushered him out of the building at the end.
Or maybe she got him out of there to change his Depends?

I'm shocked!!!
[Read the article: Major shock: Eavesdropping powers abused without oversight]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Actually, I'm not shocked at all. This is why we had strict laws governing wiretapping and eavesdropping, because government agencies tend to take a mile if you give them an inch.
All I can say is, "Good job, Bushie!"
-
It's obivous.
[Read the article: Todd Palin's testimony]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Being the despot she is, Palin wasn't to know the identity of the person for retaliation.
Kind of like how corporate execs and government managers would like to know the identity of a whistleblower.

Listen to the commanders not the politicians.
[Read the article: Why we're losing in Afghanistan]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Gen. Patraeus said in an Reuters story yesterday that NATO and U.S. forces need to begin talking to their enemies (including the Taliban).
I think some type of cease fire or agreement needs to be made, since it's the innocent Afghan people who are suffering the most while NATO and Taliban forces continue to kill each other.

Flashback
[Read the article: Thanks for the air quotes, flyboy]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]St. McCain's dismissal of women's reproductive rights reminded me of Ronald Reagan's disdain of "welfare queens."
-
She's done after 2008.
[Read the article: Sarah Palin, still rockin' the right]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I must be one of the few who think Caribou Barbie does not have much of a national political career after this run for VP. She's just too divisive and too much of a right-wing looney to appeal to enough moderates to ever win office at a national level.
My prediction is she will return to Alaska after St. McCain loses the election and will have to deal with the fallout from her ethics violations and other shady dealings. Good riddance!

This makes me sad.
[Read the article: Somali rape victim stoned for "adultery"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]As an agnostic atheist, it makes me sad and angry when leaders (or tyrants) use religion in this way. I assume these were Muslim militants who stoned the 13-year-old girl to death for adultry (even though it was rape).

No one likes Joe except Butt Buddy McCain.
[Read the article: Jews to Lieberman: Oy, Joe, enough already!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I think Holy Joe is short on friends these days. The Dems don't like or want him and the Republicans never seemed to like him. All he has is an ailing 72-year-old washed-up maverick for a friend.

A quandry.
[Read the article: GOP prospects for 2012]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Sarah Palin is a problem. It appears the "base," those hardcore right-wingers who called President-elect Obama a terrorist, want Palin to run in 2012. At the same time, many GOP intellectuals (is this an oxymoron?) don't ever want to see her on the national stage again, due to her lack of knowledge on basic issues.
Like many liberals, I'd love for her to run again. She'd guarantee another Obama win in 2012 by alienating the moderates and Independents again.

About occupation and money, not looks.
[Read the article: Magazines trash men's body image, too]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Men need to realize that it isn't so much about their looks but their occupation and wealth. Many of the women they are lusting over in these magazines date rich and/or famous men who aren't always the best looking. So, if you want to score a magazine model, become wealthy.
-
Take matters into your own hands.
[Read the article: Magazines trash men's body image, too]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Maybe if the media were relegated to its proper role, ie occasional diversion, rather than being the main focus of modern life, then it would be easier to define one's self in spite of it or separate from it.
Or one can try and limit their exposure to such media by simply turning off the TV or not reading fashion or beauty magazines. One might be something of a social pariah if they don't keep up on American Idol or get the latest fashions from GQ or Cosmo, but they might be happier with themself.

Women are pack animals, too.
[Read the article: Magazines trash men's body image, too]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]the biggest problem for most men is that they are total pack animals. they hang out in their little masturbatory mini-groups of friends and practice casual misogyny out of sheer fear of the glorious female form. then they wonder why they can't crack the shell. b/c your behavior is repulsive to most women and you are untrustworthy.
I would disgree and say that humans are pack animals. I don't know how many times I tried to approach a woman in my 20's only to have her handful of friends she is hanging with get in the way!

Woman want ambition, not looks.
[Read the article: Magazines trash men's body image, too]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]But I really, REALLY don't understand the appeal of wanting to bed the super-gorgeous off-the-charts model. Pretty people in print advertising or on a runway is fine, but when I'm looking to date someone, average attractiveness is a bonus. Other things are more important -- motivation to be gainfully employed (this has ended one very long term relationship), sense of humor, concurrent non-religious and liberal political beliefs, and high level of education -- but my "ideal man", if I could carve one, Pygmalion-like, would be average-cute. Most of my female friends share similar tastes, preferring men in the average-attractiveness spectrum. Why does it seem so different for men? (Or rather, why does the media insist it's different for men, as I know plenty of men who also much prefer the average-pretty girl-next-door type.)
You again proved my point that for women, it's not about the man's looks but about his ambition, occupation, and wealth.
As far as men going for looks, I'm guilty. However, what I think is attractive is far from what advertisers believe. I hate the skinny runway types and the high-maintenance girls who wear a lot makeup, hair extensions, and fake tanner.
