Bank of United States was a pretty major bank. It was almost a Central bank and had its fingers in every pie.
Andrew Jackson broke it as he promised.
Yes, the vengeful bank presidents brought the recession of 1897 as a result... but the USA survived.
Considering the massive, untraceable amounts of money spent in pentagon, they can easily replace KBR with their own staff.
The WW2, the last major war USA fought had only government staff for feeding, clothing and stuff.
So Obama can sign a bill ordering the military to move away from contractors within one year and you will see it happen.
Alternately he can sign a bill placing contractors like KBR and Halliburton under Military law and subject to court martials and other trials. They will speedily disengage themselves.
Unfortunately neither will happen because the congress and senate are on the take.
Unless every congressmen's son/daughter and senator's offspring is serving the military and providing first-hand reports of KBR's substandard products which gets these "fine offsprings" killed, the congress will not take a step.
Bush tried to privatize social security so that it could invest in Derivatives and AAA mortgages so that they could fall in value today while enriching Dick Fuld, Angelo and others, while the common man suffered more.
I pray daily that the Republicans NEVER regain power ever, not even if Bush acknowledges the bad decisions he made and voluntarily goes to jail for breaking the law.
Until every last neocon is ousted from USA, Obama should not sleep.
And that's why he has Rahm Emanuel: the bull dog who's much more intelligent than Rove and more effective than Rove.
I hope he breaks the Republican party's backbone completely.
You don't get it. Do you?
Sending him to jail will get him killed instantly.
Poof! There goes the money he stole.
Keeping him home people can slowly pry the money from him.
Some Returns always greater than NO Returns.
Comprende?
This Stress test would not have been needed, had the banks been prevented from practising Fractional Reserve Banking in first place.
In any other commercial enterprise, agreeing to lend or lending something you don't have/own is a crime punishable by imprisonment; EXCEPT banking.
Why?
Because politicians always like to promise the heaven and earth to their voters: roads, parks, schools, clubs, etc? And how to pay for them? Obviously not by taxing which results in the politician getting voted out!
So, politicians asked bankers and the bankers responded by introducing fractional reserve banking: the concept of keeping $3 for every $10 deposited with them and lending out $7
So, the politicians got immortality, voters got roads and bankers got profits.
When someone went to the bank to demand back the $10 IN CASH, the bank had only $3 in its cupboards!
Since when has Federal law trumped the State laws?
I thought US Constitution states that States have predominant rights over the Federal guys.
United States of America.
Arnie should order a SWAT team into the local FBI offices to free the arrested doctors and legal sellers and bring charges against the FBI officers for violation of state laws.
To hell with the federal government.
If the Feds protest, declare independence.
I can guarantee, in writing in blood, that NOTHING will be done to recoup or recover or prevent AIG from paying more such bonuses. Hell, why AIG alone? All financial institutions.
Period.
The politicians will raise a lot of noise, the president will wring his fingers, and the financial institutions will express false remorse and plead helplesness... but that's all.
Reasons?
1) The false myth of the corporation as a person. A corporation is just a financial front to a bunch of investors who want to safeguard their investment and prevent a bankruptcy from affecting their immense personal wealth. Like JPM for instance. Giving corporations real person rights, but none of the responsibilities is what causes these issues.
2) Financial institutions are necessary for a politician's survival: they contribute funds to his campaign, make sure "loans" are available to fund his extravagant bridges to nowhere...etc. If every politician must balance his budget, then no one will be elected...
3) Financial institutions are employers of retired senators and congressmen... No sane person will want to damage his future employer.
So, to conclude, even though the president can send an American Citizen to prison WITHOUT trial, incarcerate him without due process, can even send goon sqauds after him, he claims to be powerless to deal with a very visible criminal....
To conclude, even though the House can summon ANYBODY to its chambers via its order, force them to testify and even convict them on the floor, they claim they are powerless to act against a criminal (and am not referring to karl Rove)...
To conclude, even though CEOs can refuse to pay bonuses and force the the recepients to sue them, and thus gain goodwill, they refuse to do it claiming helplessness in face of law of contracts...
Again i say: NOTHING WILL BE DONE.
Bonuses WILL be paid.
CEOs will continue to retain their jobs.
Tax payers would continue to fund bankrupt companies trysts...
and children will go hungry...
parents will lose their jobs by millions...
many more will die due to canceled medical insurance policies issued by corporates who are funded with tax payer money...
USA: The land of free, where corporates go scot-free and people are sent to jail for life for not paying a debt.
The congress can pass a law granting retroactive immunity to Telcos which broke the law, but it pleads helplessness when it comes to passing a retroactive law voiding AIG bonus contracts...
WoW!!!
Why don't any newspaper columnist ask this question?
Why doesn't Ron Paul ask this question?
Hell, why doesn't Supreme Leader Obama ask this question?
Why?
Is it because he's also a corporate shill?
