Dodd is a Great Man. But he is all alone in this weakling-democrat led House & Senate.
The Democrats fear that not passing the bill will make Bush 'allow' another terror strike to happen and that the Democrats will lose this presidency that they think they are going to win.
What they have forgotten is they have already lost the battle of minds.
The people elected them to throw out Bush/Cheney.
Nancy Pelosi rode to power shrieking that she will show Bush who's the boss. The moment she was elected, she switched sides and said impeachment is off the table, thinking that her seat is 'safe' and that nov 08 needs to be won next.
What she forgot was that Americans love people with boldness and spine. Not people like Pelosi and Obama.
After all when Republicans were a minority during Clinton years, they made such a ruckus, impeached clinton for telling lies [which killed no one], and brought the government to a halt.
The democrats were given a majority by the People specifically to do the same.
But the democrats have betrayed the People.
This many democrats switching sides at such short notice for very little money is suspicious. I wonder what did the illegal spying by Bush reveal about the private lives of Democrats such that they were "persuaded" to change their votes.
Now, you can fool some people some of the time. Not all the people all the time, which is what Pelosi is trying to do.
This Nov i recommend the People throw out Democrats once and for all and ensure McCain and the Republican party are elected by a HUGE margin.
After all the democrats did NOTHING for the people. They deserve NOTHING in return.
As Henry Clay would like to say: "Quid Pro quo".
Gandhi was a great strategist.
He had studied history and it showed that the British Empire was geared to face and defeat violence anywhere in the Empire to maintain its control. In short the Empire was overwhelmingly successful against an armed enemy anywhere on the Planet. Gandhi saw the example of it in South Africa when violence was met with overwhelming force that soon exterminated those who were protesting against the Empire. He realized that violence was not a solution.
And he invented non-cooperation through non-violent means as a means to unseat the Empire.
Clearly the Empire could not do anything against a half-naked fakir who refused to respond to blows with blows or bullets with bullets.
If Gandhi had fired one bullet then the freedom movement could have been over long back. Instead the non-violence unseated the Empire's rulers who clearly could not deal with it.
So they lost the war even though they won every battle against protestors.
Not just Salon, but all press is always portraying Obama as a weak brittle guy.
I mean, the neocons are beating their war-drums again, and none of their magnificient faults are printed at all. For instance McCain's pastor was a racist guy. But salon never harps on the same thing.
BUT, Ge.Wesley Clark, a man with more battlefield experience than McCain says a blunt truth and it is twisted, portraying Obama under attack for nothing.
Why this double-standard Salon? For instance article titled "Slamming Wesley Clark". Why do you keep attacking and portraying Obama & Co as weak.
Why don't you EVER attack what Bush says or McCain's pastor says or what John Bolton says about stupidly attacking Iran?
We, the subscribers pay you for objective coverage. You, Salon, are held to a higher standard than FOX News.
Be neutral or be Silent.
It does not matter if Salon and every other newspaper and TV chanel (including Fox) started saying the president and Telecoms broke the law.
The telecoms WILL be granted immunity and Bush WILL go scot-free.
Because neither the Dems led congress nor Senate are wimps.
They have been bought by the Telecoms and they just want to make sure they win this november election by acting as if Bush is strangling them and quoting rules.
They need to look back at American History.
Americans have always liked people who are strong and command a presence. That is why like McCain and Giuliani and why they liked Spitzer inspite of all their faults.
This current congress of Democrats will lose their majority to Reps primarily because the Dems were Weak.
And the Dems do not deserve to win, either the presidency or the congress in November.
McCain's long captivity in Vietnam may have mentally deranged him and recent statements, unexplained anger, erratic statements show this clearly.
McCain should be seriously examined by a psychologist for mental health and it should not result in a Hitler-like-nutcase being in power again.
Bush is absolutely right on persisting immunity for Telecoms.
After all he did for you ungrateful guys and keeping you guys safe, you are nitpicking on a small matter which is of no consequence?
Yeah, yeah, he broke the constitution, blah blah.
So what? The president is here to keep you and me safe. And the congress and senate are empowered to make enough resources available to the president to do it.
This constitution was written 220+ years ago when no one thought we would fight with aircrafts, let alone some terrorist bastards.
Yes, it served its purpose during the WW1 and WW2 and even during Cold War.
But it has outlived its purpose and its time to change it.
Stick to old rules written 200 years ago and pay the price. Or change and survive.
Yes, the telecoms did spy on you. They didn't do it voluntarily. They did it because the President ordered them to do so under war-time powers which the congress approved.
You guys all hate Bush now because Iraq war was a failure. If it had been a success you would all worship him.
Morons.
