Original article: So long, white boy

Confusing piece of work, to say the least

I am white, male, Texan, 40, married 17 years, 3 kids, non-union, Christian (not fundie), $150K+ annually and never vote Republican. Wouldn't even consider it, given the complete mess the Republicans have created. There are more like me. Many more. Talk to them all the time in the unlikeliest of places such as the golf course, office, church......I wouldn't say I am in the majority in the circles I run in, but there is substantially more of us than you would think. Enough that you can't just close your eyes, click your heels together, and wish us away. Moral of the story? Stop the narrow generalizing and realize that like it or not, we are all more or less in this together.

crickets coming from the direction of Zona

What, no whining about how you got jobbed by the umps? Or if this happened or that didn't happen you'd be on the fast track to the Series & the title you so richly deserve? Who is Seth Smith & what's he doing blooping in 2 RBI's or how lucky Matt Holliday is that Owings didn't have his best stuff? Or how boring the series will be now that it's not graced by your exciting brand of baseball? Step up whiners!

for lack of a better phrase, "ditto" W.E.S.

My father has recounted to me more than once the reaction of his "staunch republican" stepmother to JFK's assasination......"the SOB had it coming". I still can't believe it.

Under normal circumstances I would vehemently object to this argument

......until I recently heard the Flaming Lips sell out to Dell......nothing is sacred anymore

I'm pulling for the evil empires in this one

I hope Time Warner/Comcast wins this (actually I think Comcast might have a court victory in the bag already). And I thought I would never come down on the side of big media. I think the tipping point for me was the day that Skeletor (AKA Jerry Jones) started pimping for Time Warner's competition on the airwaves here in S. TX. That told me all I needed to know about this dogfight.

A debate on whether you should bathe?

Good gawd people, yes, you should bathe daily! Wasn't this settled long ago?

Jumped 2 basketballs & a cinder block

Zeppelin came back just in time

to save the Brit music scene from the Winehouse freak show. One of these days the Winehouse era will be looked upon as a low point, and hopefully she will be around to comtemplate that fact.

Original article: Obama's European problem

Joe C is one of the bright progressive lights in journalism

but he is looking more like Hillary's astroturf coordinator every day. Joe, if the worst thing you can throw at Obama is not holding enough hearings in his Senate Foreign Relations subcommitee (which is a highly subjective claim: how many hearings would be enough?), then I would venture to say he would be a largely pristine candidate. Which is more than can be said for Hillary.

If you want to put to rest the appearance of being on Hillary's payroll, why don't you perform a few hit pieces on Hillary, too? Just to balance thing out.

*Winter* classic hockey should be played in *winter* weather

That would disqualify Dallas as a site. For cryin' out loud, hockey fans have has to endure their sport slowly bleeding south, can we at least resist staging the outdoor games in the subtropics?

Unfortunately Dallas peaked too early, and will be caught napping

by the Packers....which matters not as the evil Patriots will impose their evil will on whatever fodder emerges from the NFC.

Fresh water in Syracuse?

Surely you are not referring to Onondaga Lake right smack dab in the middle of the city...one the most polluted lakes anywhere. I love Syracuse for many things, but superior water quality is not one of them.

Yeah it's booming

but China's still a environmental and political hellhole. Given a choice, who would want to live there?

Original article: Stay classy, John Edwards

Gee whiz Becca

ease up on the caffeine! So Edwards went a little tough on Hill. He's right, it is a presidential campaign , after all. If she can't take this heat, how the hell is she gonna deal with the misanthropes in Iran or N Korea or Pakistan (or take your pick).

I hate to say it Joan

and this is a totally unscientific observation on my part, but the times I have visited your fair city I have never seen much of a police presence in the city center. Compared to other major cities in which I have spent any considerable time, I am very surprised how few times I have seen SFPD. New York, Philly, Boston, Chicago.....sweet Jesus, even New Orleans (for what it's worth) you have a substantial law enforcement presence in the city centers.

My point? If Gavin the Groomed is serious about reducing the crime rate, this might be a starting point.

Original article: Don't be happy, worry

I would normally be the first one to start ripping into big pharma

& their pill-pushing accomplices (reps, docs, etc.), but an antidepressant gave me my life back a few years ago. I went off it after six months & never looked back.

You didn't ask me, but my wife manages Meniere's with a combination of drugs (diuretics mainly) vitamin supplements (multi, additional B2, minus 10), cutting out salt, lots of exercise, and healthy diet. She has bouts once in a while but otherwise leads a fulfilling life. Best wishes.

I got all you beat...

...I've gotten to the point where EVERYTHING offends me now. My days are now spent curled up in the fetal position, a quivering oversensitized blob of flesh terrified of exposing myself to anything beyond my front door, or on TV or radio or print.

PLEASE someone STOP all this offensiveness so I can re-join society!

Original article: "Present" tension

need some help here

since I am not 'strongly' pro-choice, although if pressed I do come down on the side of choice...but at the same time am sympathetic to some of the pro-life argument.

Anyway, how is 'parental notification' an ugly argument of the pro-life side? A minor is considering one of the most harrowing, most life-altering medical procedures out there, with significant psychological and physical ramifications....and her parents should not know about this?

Newsflash.....Yosemite Sam likes McCain's style!

Why does this ridiculous dude even get invited onto TV shows anymore? Hasn't he embarrassed us enough?

Vegan? Whatever floats your boat.

Meanwhile, I'll be right over here, enjoying a 10 oz Filet, medium rare, with a side of garlic mashed potatoes & sauteed mushrooms & onions. And a bottle of pinot.
