Original article: The Padilla verdict

@Baldie

Baldie, he wasn't caught with anything. He was never charged with trying to detonate a radioactive bomb. Padilla crime has been one of thinking bad thoughts. He never killed anyone. He never hurt anyone. He was convicted of conspiracy. One of the vaguest bullshit charges in the government's prosecution arsenal. If I say hey I'd like to get some pot, and you say hey I know a guy that has pot. Even if we never actually get some pot, we have committed conspriacy to buy marijuana. It's the thought of acquiring marijuana is all that's necessary to send our asses to jail. Same thing with Padilla.

the real problem

Isn't the problem. Congress just needs to keep sending bush defense bills with Iraq War time lines. Bush then vetoes said bill, congress sends it back while explaining, slowly to the electorate, that they ARE funding the troops, it is the President that refuses to fund them. Simple no? Apparently not.

-- Stagger Lee

That is a good strategy but you forget one thing. The corporate mainstream media will never present the issue that way. That would be "liberal bias". The msm will continue to say that it's the dems not funding the troops. They will never say it's Bush cutting off funding. Plus the dems could and should be screaming from the rafters about obstructionist repubs blocking their bills. But the media isn't going to present it that way. They will say dems fail to overcome a filibuster. As much as I love Keith Olberman and think he's the only real source of news on any of the cable news networks. He too is compromised. There are things he isn't allowed to say. Recently he had John Nichols from the Nation on. He referenced him as the author of some book on Dick Cheney. John Nichols also wrote a book called "The Genius of Impeachment." Why didn't he refer to Nichols as the author of that book? Because the topic of impeachment is practically taboo in the corporate msm. So dems can repeat things over and over but it's the msm that is going to frame the issue.

@Elephantman

That's my point. You all don't have the skills, or the conviction to do what you say. Please, prove me wrong. Nominate Obama. Or Edwards. Please. Make my day. Those are the guys we want. Please. Nominate them. And make sure that they run on a platform of more taxes, and a larger government, more lawsuits, and more regulations. Do it.

-- Elephantman

First of all, the repugs don't want either Obama or Edwards to be the nominee. They desperately want Hillary because they know she is the easiest to beat. If Edwards gets the nomination, he will win the presidency. The repugs know he will win no matter who they put up against him. Edwards is the repugs worst nightmare. As for the rest of your post, we have to raise taxes because Bush spent all the money in the world on a failed war in Iraq. We can't continue to act as if our national debt does not exist. It has to be addressed. It's time for us to grow up as a nation and start acting like adults. Sorry elephantman, we can no longer afford to elect politicians that talk to and treat us like children. Even if that's how you repugs want to be treated. Telling us we can have our cake and eat it too. You can have high services and low taxes. It doesn't work that way. As for gasp regulations. It the lack of regulations that has resulted in poisoned food from China flooding america. It's a lack of regulations that lead to the Utah mine collapse. We need regulations becuase there our unethical people who put money over human lives. America's 30 year experimentation with conservatism is over. The bills are coming due buddy, and the majority of Americans see the high price we have paid for it.

Another blank check

What Levin and other dems are showing is that they have no plan of stopping this war. Come September they will give Bush yet another blank check. They might make a symbolic effort of passing a bill with timetables for withdrawal, knowing full well Bush will veto it. Then they will say we can't jeopardize the safety of the troops, and pass the funding bill Bush wants. It's all a bunch of crap. I think the reason dems won't stand up to Bush and stop this war, is because they are beholden to defense contractors for campaign contributions. The military-industrial complex runs America, not the people. What use is it for our military to buy all these weapons, if they never get used? IF they don't get used, there's no need to buy more. With banana kookoo brains in charge and his desire to attack Iran, we are truly fucked. An attack on Iran would be an act of madness. But I'm sure Bush thinks God told him to do it, so what could possibly go wrong? I have no doubt it's going to happen. The only question is when.
