It's clear to me that Obama has been captured by the Generals. His 180 degree reverse shows it's the Pentagon calling the shots on this matter. Maybe they've convinced him to their way of thinking, or he's to weak to resist. Either way, it's the Generals that are in charge. Our only hope lies in the Supreme Court. They put a stop to the Bush military commissions, we can only hope they do so again. But with the addition of Sotomayor on the court, it's a whole new ball game. Her record indicates a deference to government power. She's ruled consistently against defendants challenging their convictions. This doesn't fill me with confidence about how she will rule on such matters.
I watched Olbermann last night and noticed the wording of his denial. "I was never part of any deal" he said. That doesn't mean there wasn't a deal between GE and News Corp. Olbermann was just saying he wasn't part of it. I think he was wrong to name the NY Times reporter as a worse person, because he wasn't wrong. He reported the facts, a deal between GE and News Corp was made. I also thought it funny that Olbermann criticized Murdoch for interfering with his employees. Yet failed to name GE's CEO, who's guilty of the same thing. I guess Keith isn't going to bite the hand that feeds him. As much as I love Keith, I've lost a little respect for the man.
Does Hillary and Obama think the rest world is fooled by this? That the US can tell other countries to hold war crimes accountable, while Obama does everything possible to shield our own war criminals. Just once I wish our country would practice what it preaches. Just once. I'm tired of our country being a laughing stock for the entire world. I'm tired of our gov't hypocrisy. Yet as a previous poster noted, nothing we do ever seems to change things. We can vote the bastards out, like we did with the repugs, and nothing changes. We can replace the president, nothing changes. Our elected officials don't listen to us. They have their own agenda, and it's not looking out for the average people's best interests. It's about expanding their own power and enriching huge corporations. We have the illusion of a democracy, but America isn't a democracy in practice. It's an oligarchy. Run by the rich for the rich.
For starters let me point out something. You talk about 1000 civilians killed in Africa. The US invasion of Iraq has caused over a million deaths. Unless you suck at math, you should know that a million is more then a 1000. God knows how many Afghanis we've killed. We've also tortured over 1000 Iraqis, Afghanis and other muslim nation citizens. The rest of your post is nonsense as well. America has become a land with a two-tiered justice system. Those in power can violate our laws with impunity. Obama has made sure no one will be held accountable for it. He won't allow Bush, Cheney and other high-level gov't officials to be prosecuted. That is by definition a culture of impunity. Yet if average citizens break the law, we get the fucking book thrown at us. If you can't see it, or worse just want to refuse to see it, then your the one with a problem.
The reason Rush can call Obama Hitler and it won't generate a media controversy, is because the right drives the news cycle. If they are upset about something, then that is what the news cycle will focus on. If they ignore something, then it is ignored by the media. Since Rush isn't going to be outraged at himself, the media isn't going to be either. We can see this in almost everything reported in the MSM. Republican talking points are repeated endlessly. Look at health care reform, it's all gov't take over of health care. Gov't take over of health care will lead to rationing. You don't want a government bureaucrat between you and your doctor. etc How some people can believe we have a "liberal" media is beyond me.
I'm getting really tired of these people. Rush calling Obama Hitler. Glenn Beck joking about poisoning Pelosi. These people are poisoning our political discourse. They are going to cause people to become violent. We've already seen it at these "town hells". Congress people hanged in effigy, others assaulted. Where the fuck is the media? These people need to be shamed for what they are doing. They need be publicly rebuked. It's time for all good republicans (I'm sure there's a few of them) to say enough. Enough with the calls of violence. Enough with the scare tactics and the name calling. Republicans you need to clean your house of these people. Tell the Becks and Limbaughs that they don't speak for your party anymore. We can disagree on policy but we need to keep it civil. If republicans don't speak out against this type of behavior, then they are part of it.
