Where's the reforms Obama?

Remember Obama hasn't called for any reforms of our banking industry so far. He said we need to get the ship back on course before we do that. Well it looks like no reforms are coming. This is going to happen again and again, until we enact new regulations to stop it. But as Sen. Dick Durbin said about Congress "the banks still own the place". It's not going to happen.

Screaming at my tv

I was screaming at my tv during Monday's NBC Evening nightly news. They were reporting on this story and Chuck Todd said the exact same things. This is distracting from Obama's agenda etc etc Other then the problems that Glenn has laid out about "MSM" reporters. Another one is half the time reporters have no idea what they are talking about. They aren't experts on everything they report on. So Chuck Todd spouting off about what a lawyer's role is, shows he is clueless about that. I'm not saying he doesn't have other motives as well, but I bet his knowledge on the law is very limited. The damage is because that person is on tv, the public thinks they know what they are talking about. Being on tv gives them legitimacy.

Are missing the forest?

I think we are missing the forest from the trees here. Let's remember that this is about what Cheney was doing, having an assassination squad report directly to him. I don't buy for a second they were only targeting Alqaeda leaders. If that was the case, why would they hide that from Congress? How do we know they didn't kill any innocent people? After all, these were the same people who assured us Iraq had WMDs. They don't have the best track record on being right about stuff. Something bigger was going on here. As Time.com reported yesterday, this may have been a domestic operation. We need a congressional investigation into what was happening. Let's not get so distracted on what the Chuck Todd's of the world are "reporting", that we lose sight of the bigger picture.

Does your head hurt Glenn?

Does your head hurt Glenn? Because listening to you interview Chuck Todd made me want to bang my head against a wall. I bet you felt the same way. Could he be any more condescending? He kept saying well at 30,000 ft it might look that way, but those of us in the "real world" know differently. What really frustrated me was when he acted like he was powerless. Saying he was waiting for someone to ask the candidates (McCain and Obama) a question about giving up presidential powers. He's a reporter with NBC with access to them, why didn't he ask the damn question? Chuck Todd is totally worthless. If he's on the tv, I'm changing the channel from now on.

@Katty9 Don't waste your time

Don't waste your time trying to engage in a debate with Notorbitboy. When ever you respond to his arguments, he just moves the "goal posts" and claims how was right all along. It's a completely futile enterprise.

The CBO

So the Congressional Budget office comes out today and says the gov't proving health care is unaffordable. It will add to much to the national debt. The figure that's been floating around is 1 trillion over a decade to pay for health care reform. Yet at the same time, Congress is negotiating the military budget for 2010. It's something in the ball park of 580 Billion dollars for one year. Extrapolate that out over ten years, our gov't will spend almost 6 Trillion dollars on our bloated military. Why has the CBO never came out and said our military budget is unaffordable? If it has, I've never seen it in the newspapers like they did with the health care projections. Gee if spending a trillion dollar on health care is unaffordable, isn't our more expensive military budget unaffordable as well? Maybe if we didn't spend 6 trillion a decade on our military, we could afford 1 trillion to provide health care for all our citizens. Shows you how misplaced our priorities are as a country.

Kids don't smoke pot?

I have to disagree with the assertion that pot use among kids is declining. Not from the jobs I've worked with high-school and college age kids. Today's kids have no problem finding pot, and they smoke it more then ever.

On another note, it's been pointed out the Americans have the high rate of drug use in the world. We also work more then any other country. Does anyone think the two might be correlated? Americans have allowed themselves to become slaves. We used to work to live, now we live to work. No wonder we use drugs so much, it makes it bearable to be a slavee.

How to control costs

The major problem is how to control medical costs. Well in other countries, like Germany and Japan, the gov't sets the price doctors can charge. An MRI in Japan is $98. Why the hell can't we do that here? There is absolutely no reason an MRI needs to cost over 2000 dollars. There is no reason a heart bypass operation needs to cost over 100,000 dollars. Doctors are entitled to make a decent living, but not an excorbitant one. The gov't needs to set the prices of what they can charge. Figure in costs, allow for a modest profit, and that is the price doctors can charge. It's so simple. If other countries can do it, we can too. If any right-winger comes back with this will lead to rationing. We already have rationing in this country. 50 million Americans don't have access to health care. Come up with a new argument or shut up.

Yet MSNBC is a joke

So both CNN and Faux give these birthers a platform to spout their nonsense. Yet we are told that MSNBC is a joke of a news service. Really? What pisses me off is when Keith Olbermann is lumped in with Bill O'Reilly. As if Keith does what Bill does, make shit up. Keith reports the facts as he knows them. If he makes a mistake, he issues a correction. That's what real journalists do.
