hope the democrats agressively pursue the investigation into a program that was not implemented, and not revealed to congress. . . it will make them look as ridiculous as nancy. Notorbitboy
First of all, you are a total troll. The CIA is required by law to report to Congress on all covert operations. If Cheney instructed the CIA to not inform Congress of this program, he was instructing them to break the law. Second you are obviously a dummy that believes everything you read. Oh the program was never implemented. So why did it have to be shut down? Do you see any contradiction in that Notorbitboy? If this program was on the up and up, why did Cheney instruct the CIA not to inform congress about it? That you still take Cheney's word for everything, shows what a dumb ass you are. The man has been caught in so many lies, yet you still believe every word he says. You are just pathetic Notorbitboy.
I remember reading this on rawstory.com http://rawstory.com/08/news/2009/07/04/taibbi-nyse-ends-transparency-to-protect-goldman-sachs/ (link at sig)
The New York Stock Exchange quietly announced last week that it would end its practice of requiring companies to report all their program trading — a move that helps shield large investment banks, particularly Goldman Sachs, from public scrutiny.
The new rule means the public will no longer be able to tell if large investment banks are manipulating the stock market for their own gain, says Matt Taibbi, the journalist whose Rolling Stone article on Goldman Sachs’ role in asset bubbles over the past century has rocked the financial world.
According to previous NYSE rules, any company that carried out program trading — essentially, large computer-automated trades worth more than $1 million — had to report the trades to the NYSE, which then made the information publicly available.
But, under new regulations (PDF) published last week, that requirement has been removed.
“The NYSE announced that it will no longer be releasing its weekly program trading data,” Taibbi wrote in a blog posting. “This is quiet obviously a move designed to make it even more impossible to track what’s going on in the NYSE and shield, in particular, Goldman Sachs.”
Tempus I share your sentiment. We need full-scale riots to force Congress to take us seriously. The fact is though, we all know it's not going to happen. Especially with today's youngsters constantly texting each other. You couldn't get them to pay attention to stuff even if you slapped them in the face. Even if you could organize a large protest march on Washington, it's not going to be covered on tv. Case in point, there was a large march recently in Washington to demand health care reform. Thousands of people showed up, wasn't on corporate tv. I only heard about it thanks to Bill Moyers and he's on PBS. The rulers of this country figured out after the Vietnam war, the way to brunt calls for change is to not cover them. The revolution will not be televised.
I think the republicans do protest too much. Sotomayor is such a centrists, possibley even a right-of-center centrists. Too bad Obama didn't nominate a true liberal. What a wasted oppurtunity to help reshape the court. Thanks Obama, thanks for nothing. Anyway the republicans are happy as shit with her, they just won't admit it. They have to put up a pretense of finding her objectionable. It's all a show.
Some of you Obama-bots are truly naive. If you really think Obama is going to nominate a real liberal for the next opening on the Supreme Court. Why didn't he do that this time? There is no gaurantee he'll get another chance to put someone on the court. This might be his only chance to do so. If he was going to nominate a real liberal, he would done it this time. He didn't, he nominated a centrists. Obama is not a liberal, get that through your heads. He doesn't have some master brilliant plan to achieve his goals. He isn't an 11-dimension chess player. What you see is what you get. Pay attention to what he does and stop listening to his flowery speeches. The words usually don't match his actions.
You are obviously one dumb fuck. But hey you have health insurance, you got yours right? FUCK YOU ASSHAT. Typical right-winger. The only person you care about is yourself. Everyone else can drop dead for all you care. Get yourself an education and some empathy and join the human race. Otherwise Shut the Fuck up. The country has had enough of you motherfuckers. That's why we kicked your party to the curb the last 2 election cycles.
Wow you are so deep, of course it's about politics. That's why it's called Congress. Duh Professor Reich is right. If they don't pass it now, it's not going to happen. The health insurance lobby is spending 1.4 million dollars a day to kill any reform. The longer it takes to get a bill written, the better chance they have of killing it. Obama needs to stop sitting on the sidelines and get into the game. Start applying pressure to the house and senate leaders on getting this passed. Otherwise he has no one but himself to blame.
Another brilliant Tom Tomorrow cartoon. Other then Salon, does his work appear in any major newspapers? If not, they should. I make a practice of sending out his work via email to everyone I know. What's so damn infuriating is how the republican talking points on the dangers of "socialized" medicine, are never challenged by the democrats. A previous poster listed them. They are so easily refuted, yet they never are. Of course our corporate MSM is all to happy to repeat them ad nausem. They know who butters their bread. No wonder we can't ever get any health care reform passed. Wish I had to money to move to a civilized country. I've had it up to here with America.
