I hear what your saying but I don't see it happening. We are stuck with the wimp dem leadership of Reid and Pelosi. They talk tough but then fold like a lawn chair when it comes for action. Pelosi said it was unacceptable for Gonzo to be in charge of warrantless wiretapping. Then what does she do, she allows the vote to go ahead on the bill that does just that. She said no more blank checks when it comes to funding of the war. Then they give Bush another blank check, when accused of not supporting the troops. The only thing she hasn't gone back on is her announcement that impeachment is off the table. So all those yearning and dreaming for it to happen, accept reality. Impeachment is DOA (dead on arrival).
Fascism always needs an enemy. Some scary group that is going to destroy us all, so we must do everything in our power to stop it. If that means sacrificing all our rights, then that's what it takes. Just look at our country and how many rights we have lost. The first amendment right to free speech and protest. Now it's only ok in "free speech zones". Not in the zone, you get arrested. Bye bye 4th amendment. Someone from out of the country calls you, no warrant needed for the gov't to eavesdrop. Habeas corpus has been suspended. If Bush's plan was a police state, he's achieving it in a brilliant way. By doing it a little step at a time, most americans don't notice the slow motion loss of our rights. Anyone that cries out about an impending police state, is described as a loony left wing moon bat. Just remember, it can't happen here, right?
The christian right has been working overtime to do exactly what you say. Put bible law over everything including our government's law. Look at the people graduating from Pat Robertson's and Jerry Falwell's law school. They will tell you that God's law is paramount to everything else. That's what they get taught. What's scary is these people hold high positions in our justice department. These aren't the only schools that do this. Here in Colorado we have a "Christian" university where a professor was fired for having his students read books with divergent viewpoints. He ran afoul of school administers because some of these books were critical of the free market. As the president of the university explained we strongly believe in the free market and teach that. So these right-wing "Christian" universities are not places of higher learning. They are brainwashing academies designed to put out ideologues.
Typical right wing troll. You're salonistas explained is absurd. You state that salonistas respond to any criticism with foul language. I've read every comment on this thread so far and have seen no foul language. Salonistas make emotional arguments, project much do ya? You're the one taking isolated incidents and saying that they are representative of 1 billion muslims and the "threat" they pose to us. One incident with republicans at a university, is somehow a reflection on muslims? Oh I forgot you're engaging in logic. That's something us salonistas don't understand. Excuse me I have to stop laughing before I go on. Please keep posting buddy. Your material is a laugh riot.
What galls me is the Rove is going to get away with outing Valerie Plame. He was the traitor that leaked her name to Robert Novak. He said she was "fair game" because her husband exposed one of their lies for war. He'll never see one day in jail for his crimes. That our "liberal media" continues to dub him some kind of genius, is disgusting. The religious right isn't going away either. They may be disappointed with the results of Bush, but they have an agenda to turn our country into a theocracy. So they will pick the candidate most likely to do that, probably Romney. They still control every level of the republican party. So just because they are down right now, don't count them out.
I would just love it if the jury acquitted Padilla on all charges. What a slap in the face to the Bush admin that would be. Then he could sue the crap out of them for wrongful imprisonment, deprivation of due process and civil rights. That Bush's poster boy for TERRORISM, was acquitted would be just too delicious.
Well I'm not surprised that Padilla was found guilty. He confessed after all. Although he was tortured to get it and the judge's allowed it in, another new low for the american justice system. Shooter obviously you have no problem with the reprehensible treatment that Padilla received. Tortured, drugged, psychologically abused. Probably your definition of a good time. But for those of use with a moral compass, we find it disgusting.
This whole sad chapter in American history is one that will live forever as a national disgrace. That our government first imprisoned an american citizen without charges. That it said it had no obligation to give him right to a trial or even representation. That it had the right to imprison him forever based on one person's say so, the presidents. That an appelate court said yes the gov't has the right to imprison an american without ever charging him with a crime. That the American people sat back and allowed all of this to happen, without there being riots in the streets. That so many were comforted that we are just doing this to the "terrorists", and never realizing this could be done to any of us. That so many could not see the danger to their freedoms staring them right in the face. That our country has become so frightened of its own shadow, we would embrace fascism and torture. That is the natinoal disgrace our country will have to live with forever.
