I live in Colorado and both of my senators voted for this Fisa amendment bill. I expected that from Bush bootlicker Wayne Allard. He's a repug and thank God this is his last term. Hopefully we can get a real dem in his seat. However my other senator is a DINO, Ken Salazar. He voted for this abomination. I'm ashamed to say I voted for him. I won't make that mistake next time. I have written my senators and represenatives but it doesn't make much of a difference. They vote the way they want to. They could care less about the people they represent. Nothing is going to change even if we get a dem in the White House. Has Hillary or Obama denounced anything the Bush admin has done? None of the front runners have said they will restore our civil liberties. None of them has said they will restore the checks and balances of our constitution. I'll tell who will get my vote. The candidate that says I will undo every illegal unconstitutional act that the Bush admin has done. I will close the torture centers and secret prisons around the world. I will give accused terrorists a fair trial and a chance to defend themselves. That none of the front runners are talking like this, shows nothing's going to change. They will just take the ball and run even farther with it. See how much they can get away with. How much farther down the road to fascism they can take our country.
I believe Feinstein said that this is only a temporary bill. I seem to remember the Patriot act was only temporary too, until they reauthorized it without the sunset clauses. Anyone doubt that this bill won't become permanent? Got to love the title too, The Protect America Act. Should of called it Warrants? We don't need no stinking warrants Act. Of course this bill seems on it's face to be unconstitutional, but anyone know how can it be challenged? How will anyone establish standing if we don't know who's being wiretapped? Same catch-22 the Bush admin has exploited this whole time. Even if someone establishes standing, with Bush packing the courts with right-wing extremists I doubt it will be found unconstitutional. Right wingers hate rights and bend over backwards in deference to goverment power. Especially when it comes to "national security". I hate to be a pessimist but I think this law is here to stay. Bye bye 4th amendment, it was nice while it lasted. One last thought, is the Anonymous poster really shooter in disguise? It definetly sounds like him.
As much as it pains me to say it, Bush has a point. Congress hasn't charged Gonzo with perjury. So when Bush says Congress hasn't said Gonzo has done anytning wrong, he is correct. Now the question should be, Why hasn't Gonzo been charged with perjury yet? It's been documented that he committed perjury multiple times. He lied about civil liberty violations with regards to the Patriot act. He claimed there were none, when he had a report from FBI director Mueller that documented thousands of them. He lied about there being no disagreement over the warrantless wiretapping. He lied about why he went to Ashcrofts hospital room. So why haven't the dems followed through and charged him with perjury? Do they lack the courage of their convictions, or is this really just political theatre? Either way, I'm sick of it. These criminals need to be held accountable and the dems show no intention of doing that.
I wasn't defending Bush, but merely saying he is technically correct. Congress hasn't charged Gonzo with anything, so Bush is right to say Congress hasn't said he's done anything wrong. My anger is directed at the dems in congress that won't do anything to hold these people accountable. They haven't charged Gonzo with perjury. They won't impeach Bush or Cheney. Feingold can't even get Reid's support to censure Bush. Censure is a symbolic slap on the wrist and it has no chance of passing. 6 house dems introduced a motion to investigate the impeachment of Gonzo. Pelosi was asked about it and was pretty non-commital on whether she supported it. She said she hoped it didn't get in the way of the dems agenda. I doubt Gonzo will ever be charged with perjury, let alone impeached. The dems in congress are making a big show of investigations, and that's good. But there has been almost no follow through. That's what infuriates me.
When Gen Petraus gives his "progress" report in September, will anyone in the "msm" tell the American people one little fact? That for the counterinsurgency operation to be successful, we have to stay for 9 more years. I doubt it. We'll be told that we are making progress and have to stay to finish the job. The dems in congress will roll over, once again, and give Bush everything he wants. No timetables, just another blank check. I have no confidence that the dems will stand up to Bush anymore. They've rolled over on everything and there is no sign of that changing. So expect more lives and money thrown down the drain with no end in sight. The only chance we have of getting out of Iraq is for the next prez to be a dem. If any of the repugs get in there, expect atleast 4 more years of this madness.
