Yesterday Obama commented on North Korea launching a long range missile. Obama said that violators need to be held accountable. Well I guess as long as it's a foreigner, not high level American gov't officials who ordered torture. I've never been more ashamed of being an American. Obama makes me fucking sick. I can't believe I wasted all that time and energy to get his two-faced ass elected. Man was I bamboozled, and I'll be the first to admit it. Not that the alternative was any better. McCain would probably be worse then Obama, if he had gotten elected. Either way America is going down. The house of cards is collapsing. Humpty Dumpty is broken and all the king's horses and all the king's men, can't put Humpty Dumpty back together again.
While we have to wait and see how much is redacted or not in these latest memos. It's clear that there will be no prosecutions of any kind, neither CIA or former Bush officials. If the CIA torturers are to be let off the hook, I have no doubt those that ordered torture will go free as well. Obama has giving any former Bushie an arguable defense. If those that actually did the torture broke no laws, then I broke no laws by ordering it. Thanks Obama, thanks for nothing. So much for restoring the rule of law and holding violators accountable. You make me sick and I voted for you. Won't make that mistake again.
Josef's letter is completely predictable. He asserts that only liberal partisan's want prosecutions of Bush officials that broke our laws and ordered the torture of detainees, some of them that may have been innocent all along. It's not even possible for him to imagine that even conservatives that believe in the rule of law, would want law breakers held accountable. No that's not possible in his tiny little mind. So sad but so predictable.
I am completely disgusted with Obama on this issue of not prosecuting anyone for torture. Obama is setting precedent here, the President and his henchmen are above the law. That will be Obama's legacy for all time. Who will save us from the next criminal presidency? The answer is NO ONE. Obama has made sure of that.
Nothing new here. The establishment press is protecting the establishment. That's their jobs after all. Most of these beltway journalists are nothing but total suck ups. They kissed Bush's ass when he was president. Now that he's gone, they feel free to tell the truth about him. Same will happen with Obama. They'll kiss his ass now, diss him once he's out of office. I just hope Obama refuses to listen to the David Broder's of the world.
Compare and contrast David Broder vs Frank Rich.
"President Obama can talk all he wants about not looking back, but this grotesque past is bigger than even he is. It won’t vanish into a memory hole any more than Andersonville, World War II internment camps or My Lai. The White House, Congress and politicians of both parties should get out of the way. We don’t need another commission. We don’t need any Capitol Hill witch hunts. What we must have are fair trials that at long last uphold and reclaim our nation’s commitment to the rule of law." I wish our MSM would allow more then two voices on this issue. With regards to the torture, they act as if the only two people tortured were Abu Zabadah and KSM. We know for a fact that hundreds (if not thousands) of people were tortured. Tortured in Bagram, Gitmo, Abu Ghraib, and CIA black sites. We know that over a hundred detainees died in US custody, 34 classified as HOMICIDES by our own gov't. Homicide aka MURDER. DETAINEES WERE MURDERED!!! Would it be too much to ask for some reporter to point that out? Yet we get the same limited debate. Those that want prosecutions are out for vengeance. Serious people know that you don't prosecute policy differences. When did murder become a policy dispute? No wonder America is such sorry shape. I've said it before and I'll say it again, the ship is sinking folks. The American empire is going down. America is going down. Grab the life jackets because you are going to need them.
You want to know why so many "journalists" at the big mainstream papers are in such lockstep with eachother? It's because management only hires those that won't rock the boat. Reporters that ask the tough questions, don't get hired. Why do you think you never see Amy Goodman on Meet the Press, or any other Sunday roundtable? Why is it always the same people on those shows week after week? Because that's the way the corporate owners want it. They like the way the country is now. The huge levels of job insecurity. The millions without health insurance. They benefit financially from maintaining the status quo. It's not a coincidence that Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and other right-wing corporate apologist get paid hundreds of millions of dollars. Their job is to convince the working class, that what's best for the corporations is best for them. If you ever wonder why a system operates the way it does, it's because someone is benefitting from it working that way.
