What Thomas Frank's is describing is the classic definition of FASCISM. Fascism is the merging of the state with corporate power, for the benefit of corporations. Mussolini said fascism should be more accurately described as CORPORATISM. But what ever it's called, it's goal is the same. The only purpose of gov't is to enrich the corporations. The gov't should not be involved in any programs that promote the "common good". Because that would be helping average people. This is where right-wing hate radio and noise channel propaganda come in. Their job is to brainwash people into believing this crap will actually benefit them. Which a ton of people do. I comment on my local papers website, Rocky Mountain News, and debate these people all the time. A ballot initiative just received enough signatures qualify for the ballot, to hold CEO's criminally accountable for any fraud their companies engage in. Sounds pretty reasonable right? CEO's should be held accountable for any crimes they commit. You'd of thought the world was going to end by the majority of commentators. Businesses will flee in droves from Colorado if this passes. How unfair is it to hold CEO's accountable. This is the work of a bunch of crazy liberals and evil union organizers, to destroy business. The domination of our airwaves by this constant propaganda, is why America has come so close to becoming a fascist nation. It practically is a fascist nation anymore. The only thing standing in it's way is the last few judges that actually believe in the constitution. If McCain gets elected, the judiciary will become another branch of the corporatists.
Obama needs to hit back hard on this Rezko thing. Like others have posted, bring up the Keating 5 scandal. Hit him and hit hm hard Obama.
I was waiting with relish to watch the national evening news broadcasts last night. Managed to catch both the CBS and ABC reports on the McCain housing gaffe. CBS covered the story pretty good, being neutral and not covering for McCain. ABC was different. Charlie Gibson said the candidates were arguing over who was richer. Talk about trying to reshape a story. That's not at all what the story was about. Anyone else catch the ABC national news segment on this? ABC news disgusts me. I bet Peter Jennings is rolling over in his grave, at what it's become.
I think it would be hilarious if it turns out not to be Biden. Talk about the AP, CNN, Fox would all have egg on their face. I'm curious as to why the Obama camp would allow this to slip out. It's kind of insulting to all those that signed up for the text message. At the bare minimum, it's a big let down to all his supporters. They wanted to be the first to know, and now that's been taken away. Anyway, I'm glad it's Biden. He's a great choice and will definetly help Obama. He's a good attack dog and I hope Obama let's him off the leash immediately. It's time to take it to McCain. We need to win this thing, and you don't do that by playing nice.
@Rtjones, Obama hasn't reached out to Hillary supporters? He's advocated for his supporters to pay down her debt. He's allowing a roll call vote at the convention, with the introduction of her name so she gets recognition. She's getting to speak in Prime Time and so is Bill. Give me a fucking break, Obama hasn't reached out to Hillary supporters.
@Elizabeth Plumley Wah Wah Wah I didn't get my way. Hillary didn't get on the ticket. Wah Wah Wah I'm going to hold by breath and pout. Go ahead and vote for McCain. Cut your nose off to spite your face. Stupid PUMA.
I love Anna Faris, she's been good in everything she's been in. I plan on seeing this movie, but not in the theatres. This a film that you can wait for the video. I bet it will do more in video rental and sales, then in box office.
Glenn is right on with what the dem convention has been missing, not enough attacks on McCain. What's even more infuriating is all the deference shown to McCain. I swear before every speaker says something negative about him, they always have to say how much they respect his service. Don't forget to mention that he's a war hero while they are at it. I'm sick to death of all this crap. You think the repugs are going to be this deferential to Obama next week? I wouldn't be surprised if some speaker drops the N bomb at their convention while talking about Obama. God knows how many in the audience will be thinking that about him. Once again we seem to be making the same mistakes over and over. Kerry wanted a clean convention, no negativity. Seems Obama has demanded that too, so we get these mealy mouth worthless attacks. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Obama gets no convention bounce in the polls.
The best way to watch the convention is on C-span. It's just the direct feed of who ever is speaking on stage. No idiot pundits telling everyone how to think about what we just saw. I got to see Kerry's speech, which the cable networks didn't cover. The best part of his speech was comparing Senator McCain to Candidate McCain. Highlighting how much McCain has flip-flopped on his own positions over the years. It was beautiful and deserved better coverage.
