Waiting til 2nd term

If Obama was to wait til his second term to begin prosecuting the Bush crimes, the backlash would still be huge. The republicans would scream bloody murder that Obama was rehashing "ancient history". The media would jump all over him for that too. It just disgusts me that Obama is such a coward, that he won't pursue criminal prosecutions for what these criminals did. As Cenk Uygur of the Young Turks said so elogently recently, we can't move forward with out Justice. We must have justice. These crimes can not go unpunished. They can't be allowed to stand. Because if we allow them to go unpunsihed, then there will be nothing to stop the next dictator that gets elected president. If America is to stand for anything, it has to stand for the rule of law and that no one is above that.

Will there be an investigation?

Well it seems like the FBI is trying to convict this poor deceased guy in the minds of the public. What are the odds that there will ever be a congressional investigation? I don't see it happening. Especially if Obama gets elected because he'll want to get his legislative goals enacted. Just like we need a Truth and Reconcillation commission into the Bush crimes, which won't happen either. All of it will be swept under the rug and we'll be told to move on. Nothing to see here, go about your business.

Not "newsworthy"

Well I did a quick check of both CNN and MSNBC websites, and guess what? Not one mention of Ron Suskind's bombshell. It's not like he has anonymous sources, there are all on the record. Yet it's not newsworthy. Yet on the CNN site, one of the latest news items was about a guy calling 911 about a bad sandwich. Randi Rhodes is right, the news has been canceled.

A few thoughts

I saw Ron Suskind tonight on Olbermann. He has both of these sources on tape, saying they were asked to forge a document linking Saddam with Alqaeda. Now it's interesting they are trying to recant their statements. Wonder how much pressure has been applied to them? Also if Tenet has been wrongly defamed, then he needs to sue Suskind for slander. Let's see if anyone brings a lawsuit against Suskind. I doubt any will be forth coming.

If Bush was willing to have a U2 spy plane painted in UN colors, to try to get Saddam to shoot at it to provoke a war. As the Downing Street memo's documented. Do you think he'd be above forging a document linking Saddam with Alqaeda?

Last I doubt this story will get much coverage at all. Only Keith Olbermann covered it, as far as I saw on cable news. Just one more story that will be swept down the memory hole.

Not newsworthy

Well as expected, this story generated almost no news coverage. Keith Olbermann had a cable news exclusive with Ron Suskind, because Keith was the only news show that reported on it. My two local papers had not one item on this story. I guess it's not news worthy. Evidence of crimes committed by our President, from sources on the record is not news worthy. That's what makes me angry, is how often we hear "news" stories broadcast far and wide based on completely anonymous sources. How many NY Times stories were based completely on anonymous sources, in the build up to the Iraq war? Yet here's a story with sources on record on tape, and it's deemed not news worthy. CNN's website yesterday had no mention of Ron Suskind's book. But they did have a latest news item on a man calling 911 about a bad sandwich. That's what constitutes news now in America.

Elydog nailed it

You nailed it Elydog. Americans have no long-term memory, are easily fooled and manipulated. Look at how McCain is drawing even now with Obama in the polls. It's because Americans are falling for his easy solution to the energy crisis, just drill more. It won't do anything to reduce prices, but that message isn't getting out. I'm glad Obama is finally laying out his energy plan, but he really needs to nail home the "no easy answers" point. We have to have a comprehensive energy plan. Drilling more is not a long-term solution. Hopefully in the debates Obama nails McCain with the question. After we drill more and that oil runs out, what then?

news has been canceled

The only reasonable conclusion that one can come to is that the news has been canceled. Our corporate media has determined that the trivial (Paris Hilton, Britney, etc) is what people want to know about. News stories like forging documents to start a war, not news worthy. The president's "principles" (VP,AG,SecDef,SecState) approving the CIA to engage in specific interrogation techniques (waterboarding), deserved one day of coverage. A religious cult in Texas that may of molested children, couple weeks of non-stop coverage. The news has been canceled.

As for ever getting accountability, it's doubtful it will ever happen. Even if Obama gets elected, which is a big IF, he's not going to do anything atleast not in his first term. He has already said he's not going to engage in investigations, that the republicans would perceive as political witch hunts. IF he doesn't do anything in his first term, he's not going to do it in the second either. Too much time will have passed by that point. No the Bush criminals will get away with it all, and we'll be stuck paying their pensions.
