@Sue

There was plenty of outrage when Coulter called Edwards a fag. I think you have just forgotten it. That being said, the right will try as they might to scare the American people about an Obama presidency. They'll pull out all the fear cards they have left to play; he's a muslim, he's unpatriotic, he's "girly" etc. It's not going to work this time because how bad things are in America right now. When the economy was good, people could obsess about phony issues like patriotism and gay marriage. Now that the economy is in the shitter, gas prices are out of sight, inflation is spiraling out of control. Having to decide whether to buy food for your family, or put gas in the car to get to work, makes people focus on the important issues that need solving. So the right can trot out all their be afraid slogans. They can scream and yell about Obama's pastor, his lack of "patriotism" etc. It ain't going to work.

Send them to England

Every "journalist" that works for the major tv networks, should have to spend a year in England and see how real journalists work. In England they know it's their job to ask tough questions and to challenge politicians when they give evasive answers.

@El Cid

If that Asia times article is correct and Bush plans to strike Iran in August, want to bet it happens around the completion of the Democratic national convention. Just in time to neutralize any bounce in the polls the democratic nominee would get from the convention. Just like they announced a terror alert after Kerry got the official nomination in 2004.

Denial easier then taking responsibility

It's no surprise that the majority of "journalists" in the MSM refuse to admit they failed to do their jobs in the run up to the war. Living in denial is a lot easier then taking responiblity for their actions. If they were to admit they failed to challenge the Bush admin. on their claims, they have to take partial responsibility for what has happened. That means admitting to oneself that hundreds of thousands of people are dead that wouldn't be, if they had done their jobs correctly. Trillions of American taxpayer dollars would of been saved etc. So we will see very little mea culpas from our corporate "journalists". Their mental health is too dependent upon staying in that safety cone of denial. How could you live with yourself any other way?

Original article: Why gas is so expensive

Reduce demand

The only way we are going to be able to cut the price of gas is by reducing the demand. Congress has given the car makers til 2020 to have average fuel efficiencies of 35 mpg. This is an absolute joke. Europe, China, and Japan mandate average fuel efficiencies of 40 mpg or higher today. We have to wait 12 years, to still be behind where the rest of the world is today. Congress needs to mandate average fuel efficiencies of 40 mpg or higher within 5 years. If we did that, we could be off foreign oil forever.

We are a nation

A poster wrote that he doesn't blame the auto makers for selling SUV's that made them huge profits, because we have a free market system. Well I do blame the auto-makers because they were concentrating on short term profits, instead of long term stability. Because they didn't think of how their actions would affect our entire country. Now all that short term thinking is coming back to bite them in the ass. The big 3 are losing billions because no one wants those gas guzzling dinosaurs. But that brings me to my larger point. We are a nation, not just a geographical location compromised of individuals. If OPEC turned off the oil tomorrow, our country's economy and national security would be compromised. So it's not about you or me, it's about all of us. No one lives in this world by him/herself, we all share it together. It's about damn time we start thinking that way, especially when it comes to energy. Our national security is at stake.

He's making a profit

One of the funniest criticisms of right-wingers against McClennan's new book, is that he's making a profit on it. These are the same people that have defended Big Oil's outrageous profits and see nothing wrong with them. Yet when anyone criticizes their dear leader, then making a profit is somehow evil and wrong. I just wish repugs would be consistent for once.

If you must read it

I think all of this media frenzy on Scott McClennan's new book is so overblown. While everyone is focusing on this new book, how many important news stories are going unreported? How many are slipping past us down the memory hole? I think this is an excellent example of how we all get manipulated by the MSM and the PR people, into talking about the issues they want us to talk about. Every website for the past couple days has been all Scott McClennan's new book. All the free publicity and controversy will definetly drive up sales. So if you must read this new book, I suggest you check it out from your library. That way Scott and his publisher won't get the additional royalties.

New descriptive name needed

The neocons are the biggest threat to American freedoms, since the McCarthy era. The problem is that we don't have a proper descriptive name that we can apply to them. A name that would make Americans see the danger these people represent. These people are fascist in every sense of the word, but fascist is not useful. It's been overused and has lost all meaning. We could use authoritians, but most Americans probably don't know what that means. Plus authoritian doesn't sound that alarming. Any ideas? I'd love to hear them because we need something to label these bastards with.
