Not just Washington press

It's not just the Washington press corp that has minimized coverage of the Yoo torture and 4th amendment no longer applies memos. It's also local papers. How many people here get a subscription to your local paper? How many of those papers ran articles on the memo's? My paper (Rocky Mtn News, Denver CO) didn't. So if it wasn't for the web, I never would of heard of it. As previous posters have said, newspapers are businesses. So they run trivial crap because it's cheap and they don't have to pay reporters to do investigations. The poster that said Huffpo is overtaking the Drudge, what's the difference? Huffpo has sold out. It's all celebrity gossip crap now. Their political reporting is the same old he said she said garbage. It's all hype hype hype. At best Huffpo is minimally better then drudge, but not by much.

It's good to be cool but not too cool

Reading Howie Kurtz's column on Obama, he referenced a crtic saying that Obama had been cool under pressure when being dogged by a man requesting a picture. That's a good thing maybe. It's good to be cool, but you don't want to be too cool. No matter what Obama does he is going to be attacked. That bitch Dowd saying how Obama effeminately sipped his beer, and nippled on chocolate. Why not come right out and call him a fag Dowd? It's what you basically are doing. Same thing with Hillary, if she is tough she's a bitch. If she isn't tough enough, then she's not up to being president. Oh and she wears pant suits you know, what kind of woman is she? Just once I'd love to see the press do this to republicans.

Obama the elitist?

Can anyone tell me where the MSM is getting this Obama is an elitist crap? Does anyone watching Obama feel like he comes off as an elitist? Of course that's the way they always handle democrats. Gore was an elitist, so was Kerry. Oh Kerry windsurfed, how much more elitist can you get? I was struck by Howie Kurtz article today talking about democrats. Democrats always have the problem of being inauthentic he said. Gore with his "earth-tones" and Howie wasn't even going to go into John Kerry's problems. This is why I fear John McCain is going to be the next president. The corporate media will tear down whoever is the dem nominee. Hillary will be easier to do, but they are already working on Obama. Setting him up as effeminate and elitist. Too cool for his own good. Oh and don't forget that Obama is smart, why would you want someone like that for your president? Contrasted next to the everyman superman McCain, and guess who most people will flock to vote for? People don't vote for candidates because of issues or policy. They vote for the image.

It wasn't hypothetical

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but Mukasey didn't give a hypothetical on not listening to "terrorists" phone calls. He said there was a call in Afghanistan to the US, and we got 3000 people killed because we didn't listen in on it. He didn't give a hypothetical situation, he stated it as a fact. But this AP article and other news reports have characterized it as a what if situation. So he gets a pass on lying about the FISA laws, but is given another pass on top of it. His statement of fact gets made into a hypothetical.

It can't happen here

I haven't had time to go through all the comments yet, so excuse me if someone has said something similar. I think you nailed what's wrong with our media Glenn, the belief that "It Can't Happen Here". But the sad fact is not only can it happen here, it is happening here. Our rights are being taken away. Our gov't is committing torture and having people like Yoo give legal cover to do it. Our gov't spying on our calls without warrants. If any of this had been done in a foreign country like Russia, the media would be denouncing how totalitarian it was. Yet when it's done here, no reason for alarm folks. Don't get excited. For God's sake Habeaus Corpus has been suspended by congressional legislation, and only Keith Olbermann in the MSM made a big deal out of it. Silence from everyone else. Anyone that calls it for what is, FASCISM, is labeled a hysteric. Watch how Glenn's new book will be reviewed. It will be called shrill partisan and one-sided. Not to be taken seriously. Until the members of the MSM get the fact that it can happen here, our country will continue it's downward path.

It won't be covered

Well I'm pretty sure this story won't be covered. First of all, the media (with exception of Olbermann) failed to cover it. Second, those few outlets that did (AP and others) transformed his statement of fact into a hypothetical one. So no it's not going to be covered. Especially with the Patreaus hearings happening today. Yet another great case of "coincidental" timing that just happened to benefit the Bush admin. Wonder why Hamilton waited til today to respond to your inquiries Glenn? I'm sure it had nothing to do with the Patreaus hearings, nothing at all. It's funny how damaging stories about the Bush admin, always come out at the same time as another story. I remember when Woodward's new book came out that said there had been an emergency meeting at the White House by Tenet of an impending terrorist attack on July 10th 2001. This new revelation caught Condi in a huge lie, because she said they had no warnings. Does anyone remember what happened? The Jon Bonet murder case was "solved", some crazy person confessed to doing it. His story was so full of holes it fell apart in two days, but it had the desired affect. The media focused all it's attention on crazy guy, and Condi being caught red-handed in a lie was completely forgotten. This pattern has repeated itself many times, always to the benefit of the Bush administration.
