Chris I've seen you use this CFR abreviation repeatedly, but have no idea what it means. What does it stand for? As for Obama's speech. I think it was good because it's about time we have a discussion on race in this country. Too many people think because segregation was ended and the civil rights act was passed, that racism ended in this country. That those people screaming segregation now segregation forever, suddenly saw the error of their ways and started to view black people as their equals. Of course that didn't happen. I think the best part of Obama's speech is when he mentioned the effects discrimination had and continue to have on black people. Not many people consider the lasting economic effects of discrimination. If anyting I hope his speech can help start the dialogue this country should of engaged in a long time ago.
Obama asked a question in his speech. Will we continue to allow trivial issues distract us, or will we say not this time? If judging from the many comments I've read on this site and others, the answer is we will continue to be distracted. So all you democrats get used to saying President John McCain. We had our golden opportunity and we blew it. We are so divided amongst each other, there is no way in hell either Obama or Hillary will be elected president this fall. Doesn't matter who the nominee is, we will not win.
It constantly amazes me when I read comments that scream Obama is running a filthy campaign against Hillary. Well to those people, please present some evidence of that. Give me actual examples of something Obama has done. Don't just say Hillary has been subject to attacks. Give me actual examples of it. Because the campaign I've been watching, I haven't seen it. In fact I've seen the exact opposite. I've seen Hillary say her and McCain are qualified to be president, but Obama isn't. I want a Hillary supporter to defend that attack. That it's ok to praise the republican opponent over a member of your own party. A member that is potentially going to be the nominee of your party for president. I want a Hillary supporter to defend that. Because to me, that's unexcusable. You don't help the other side, just to try help yourself win. The taking back of the White House should be our highest priority. No matter who the nominee is, we have to win the presidency.
Well I, as well as other posters, have asked Hillary supporters for actual examples of nasty attacks committed by Obama against Hillary. Over 3 pages of comments have appeared since I asked my question, and no Hillary supporter has taking the challenge. I wonder why that is. If Hillary is the poor little victim of the nasty Obama, why can't you provide evidence of it? Come on you Hillary supporters answer the question. Or can you?
These blatant lies by Mukasey should be the headline news for a week. Of course they won't be. Obama will fart the wrong way, and the Clinton camp will go ballistic over it. So that will dominate the news coverage for a few days.
The poster that said we need a new 9/11 investigation, I agree whole-heartedly. The 9/11 commission was compromised from the very beginning. Phillip Zelikow, close personal friend of Condi Rice, was the executive director of it. When you have an investigation like this you need people free from conflicts of interests. People not associated with those that are being investigated. As many staffers from the commission have noted, Zelikow blocked the publishing of materials that made Condi look bad. That Bush and Cheney were allowed to "testify" together and without being placed under oath was a joke.
I firmly believe that John Yoo is a sociopath. He feels no remorse or guilt for what he has done. In fact the man is proud of it. I've seen him be interviewed on many shows and films about his legal justifications allowing torture. He has been on Frontline and in the movie "Taxi to the Darkside". While all the other people in the Bush admin refuse to be interviewed, he does so without reservation. The sight of the man alone makes me sick. His calm demeanor is the most unsettling thing about him. He expresses the same emotions that nazi's exhibited when talking about killing millions of people, as in none at all. That Yoo is allowed to corrupt future lawyers of America, doesn't bode well for our country. Who will be the next Yoo protege, giving the "legal" greenlight to a future president to do whatever he wants?
Well until Yoo gets indicted for justifying torture, I wouldn't get my hopes up. Most likley he'll never face justice for what he has done. Just like Bush, Cheney, Addington etc They are all going to skate. Now imagine some foreign country decides to prosecute all of them for war crimes. Do you think that a President Obama or Clinton, would allow a former president to be handed over to an international court? No that ain't ever going to happen.
This maybe OT but I'm posting it anyway. First is the email address for the dean of Berkeley Law school. edley@law.berkeley.edu Write him a polite email asking that John Yoo be fired. I did.
Glenn my local library (Weld County library district) has your new book on order. I was the first to place a hold on it. Can't wait to read it.
