@Mona

Mona you are obviously a self-hating woman if you think women prostituting themselves isn't the worst thing in the world. You've internalized the male-power structure and no longer can see prostitution for what it is. Thank God we have people here like Tina to show us the way. You better let her educate you on how woman are supposed to think.

Just change the laws

I'm not picking on Tina here but she brought up that laws on drugs, prostitution, etc were democratically enacted. So if Americans are actually against them, they would get them changed. Well living in Colorado, let me tell you about how citizens have tried to change the laws. By citizen initiative in Denver, by a 60%+ margin voters enacted a resolution that would decriminalize marijuana. People caught with less then an ounce of marijuana, would not face any penalty. Guess what the police announced? They were still going to arrest and ticket the people because marijuana was illegal under state law. Never mind that Denver is a home rule city, meaning they will enforce city laws even if they aren't illegal under state law. They had no choice but to apply the state law they said. Then last election Denver citizens passed another resolution, mandating that marijuana be police's lowest priority. Guess what happened? The latest statistics came out and marijuana arrests have increased 50% since that initiative was passed. So much for just changing the laws.

Just say yes

When Pelosi was asked the question, is the President lying? Just say yes. Don't pussyfoot around it, call him for what he is a BALD FACED LIAR.

Imagine the reaction

Well like my previous post said, Pelosi should just say yes Bush is lying. But I realize that if she did that, the repugs in congress would have a hissy fit. Decrying the terrible manners being displayed by the House speaker. VP Cheney telling senators to go fuck themselves on the senate floor, that's ok. Say the President is lying, that's just beyond the pale.

Is the house growing a spine?

All I can say is wow, maybe they are starting to listen to us. Now that the house dems seems to be growing a spine, maybe they can follow it up with something like impeachment. It's not too late, they can still do it.

@JohnPM

I too was thinking about the so-called free market. Isn't interesting how silent the right-wingers have been on the federal bail out of Bear Stearns? The fed just gave them 200 billion to keep them from going bankrupt, and not a peep. What about letting the market decide things? Shouldn't people and companies be responsible for their actions and have to live with the consequences? I guess that only applies when you are one of the little people. You got into a mortgage you couldn't afford, accept the consequences for your actions. A investment bank issues billions in loans without checking to see if people could pay those loans, then you deserve a federal bail out. Next time someone says we have a free-market in this country, use the fed bail out of Bear Stearns to set them straight.

thoughts

Well the only real difference between Rev. Wright and Robertson is that one speaks real truth to power, while the other blames powerless minorities. Rev. Wright speaks the truth, that rich white people run this country. How can that even be considered controversial, it's the freaking truth. Just look at Congress and the ceo's of the fortune 500. How many people of color or women do you see? Not many that's for sure. Then Wright has the audacity to say that a country that sows violence, shouldn't be surprised when it reaps it. That's straight up biblical. It's not justifying the 9/11 attacks, but a message of how to live. Don't use violence against others, and you won't get it visited upon you. Not a very hard concept to grasp. But the nationalistic types can't handle the truth. If you dare suggest that America isn't the embodiment of perfection in every way shape and form, you are some kind of America-hater.

Why does nothing ever happen to Vegas?

When I hear people like Robertson, Falwell, Hagee etc, go off on how Katrina was God's punishment for New Orlean's sins. They had bars, strip clubs, let gays live without threat of violence, so God in his anger and wrath laid the city low. I always wonder if that's true, why does God never do anything to Las Vegas? It's called Sin City after all. Drinking, gambling, fornicating are it's main attractions, and yet nothing ever happens to it. Maybe it has more to do with geographical location, then God's vengeance. Thousands of years ago, when a natural disaster stroke people would cry out. We have angered the gods, we must repent our sinful ways. Wouldn't be refreshing if human thought could of evolved in a few thousand years? I forgot Robertson and company don't believe in evolution.
