"the way things are supposed to work in a country that lives under the rule of law" GG
Well there's your problem Glenn, you think this country is ruled by laws. Maybe one time America was a country ruled by laws, but it's now a country ruled by men. Laws are for the little people. Not for the wealthy and the powerful. That will be Bush's ever lasting legacy, he exposed America for what it is now. That's it's all just a facade. That we are a country ruled by men, not by laws. Of course Bush himself didn't make America into what it is now. This process started under Reagan with Iran-Contra. The president ordered arms sales in violation of Congress, and got away with it. Reagan set the precedent. He showed that the President can break the law, and as long as Congress does nothing, will get away with it. So why are we surprised that the telco's will get their immunity? We all knew it would happen sooner or later. The false hope that we could stop it with our calls and letters to our senators and representatives. We just delayed it but we didn't stop it. I think Dodd played us with his filibuster. It was all part of the show. Make the little people think their voices are being heard, when telco immunity was always going to pass.
Does anyone know if, after the fact, in a possible country of rule of law, it would be possible to repair these laws the supine congress and senate pass when clearly there is such politically motivated obfuscation of the actually known facts? Or put it this way, when, in any real light shed on these actions it is revealed that collusion in an effort to protect the Bush/Cheney Admin. is what was at stake all along, not to mention the vast liability of the telecoms, is it possible that retroactive immunity to the telecoms could be revoked?

Yes it's always possible to repeal a bad law once it has been passed. While it's possible, the question should be is it probable. It's always easier to keep a bad law from being passed, then to get it repealed once made law. So it's possible but not probable that telco immunity will be repealed once passed. The belief that some investigation will be done to reveal Bush's crimes, is not one based in reality. Once Bush exits from the Oval office, we will be deluged with the mantra "Time to move forward, no time to look back." Neither Hillary or Obama, if elected prez, will be interested in investigating Bush's crimes. They will say what dems always say, I want to focus on getting my legislative goals passed. Investigating past lawlessness would distract them from that goal. They aren't capable of walking and chewing gum at the same time, politically speaking. So once telco immunity gets passed, forget about it ever being repealed.
Yes it's possible that the telco immunity could be thrown out by a federal judge. But remember that 1/3 of the judges on the Federal Court, were installed by Bush. So how likely you think they are to throwing out immunity for the telcos?
It just amazes me that the dem controlled congress passed a bill that the republican controlled congress wouldn't. That for me is the most amazing part of this whole sale destruction of our rights. That dems would do what republicans wouldn't. That piece of shit Reid saying he was opposed to telco immunity, while doing everything in his power to ensure it would be passed. How stupid does he think we are? FUCK HIM AND ALL THE REST OF THE DEMOCRATS IN CONGRESS. While I'm at it here's a FUCK YOU at John Conyers. Did anyone hear what that piece of shit said recently? He said was on the "verge of starting impeachment". He's on the VERGE of doing something. Gee let's see what has transpired lately. Bush admin admits they engaged in illegal torture. Admits they wiretapped our phones without warrants. "Accidently" deleted over year's worth of emails that they were required by law to save. What has to happen before you get passed the VERGE of doing something and actually do something Conyers? Does Bush have to strangle a baby with his bare hands? I doubt even that would make the dems start impeachment proceedings. Pathetic is the only word to describe our congressional leadership, absolutely pathetic.
Thank you Jordan for nailing Elephantman so succinctly. That is the difference between real patriots, and phonies like him. Real patriots don't give up their values just because they are frightened. Cowards like Elephantman do that.
Glenn you and the rest of your ilk are just Bush-haters. Your hatred of Bush has blinded you to reality. You simply can't be taking seriously on this or any other subject. So of course John Roberts isn't going to be confrontational with McConnell. He hasn't been driving mad with BDS (Bush Derangement Syndrome) like you. So he knows that McConnell is an honorable man and would never do anything wrong. He only wants to protect us from the evil terrorists. His motives are pure as the driven snow. Only someone suffering from BDS would think otherwise.
This may sound odd, but I'd like to thank Shooter for something. He listens to Rush Limbaugh, so we don't have to. He parrots the message of the day and gladly repeats it. Now when tomorrow's message is broadcast, he'll tell us that too. So if tomorrow's message contradicts today's, he never notices. He's just glad to be told how to think, because thinking is hard work. Much better to allow Rush to do it for him.
