George and Helen
[Read the article: National Review: Withdraw Miers or damage the movement]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Dad's Clarence Thomas was approved. Why can't the Right let Dubya have Helen Miers?
Advice to Dubya: Have the Senate vote on Miers be counted by Diebold.
If Helen is forced to resign, your next choice should be Ann Coulter...

The White House HAS to take Christ out of Christmas!
[Read the article: The president's season of hope and happiness]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The message of Christ is one that the White House tries daily to destroy, for good reason:
Christ, who said "resist not evil," "love your enemies," and "do good to them that hate you," is, by Conservative standards, a supporter of terrorists.
Christ's message that His followers should pray in secret (Matthew 6:6), give cash to poor people (Mark 10:21), and loan money without charging interest (Luke 6:35) is strongly anti-Conservative.
Add John 13:34-35 at a time when we are "staying the course" and the White House HAS to take Christ out of Christmas!
By their Conservative standards, Christ's message ruined even His own disciples. (Read Acts 2:44-45 and Acts 4:34-35 and you will see that they turned into socialists!)

The 10 Questions
[Read the article: Ten ways to argue about the war]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]How come the first question wasn't "What Would Jesus Do?"
If that HAD been the first question, then the other questions would have been unnecessary.
People who support the war have to acknowledge that they are anti-Christ's teachings.
When the Right trashes objectors, they should remember "As you do unto the least of these, you do unto me."

Tie-ins
[Read the article: More ways to live like a geisha!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I can't WAIT for the tie-ins for "Brokeback Mountain"!
Just imagine....

TV coverage
[Read the article: West Virginia and that other place where Americans have died]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Excellent comment. Just excellent.
But in 2006, "free press" is an oxymoron.
It's "the pre$$", owned by and operated for billionaires, who lust for control of Iraq's oil.

Faith-based Math
[Read the article: We're in the red, and staying there]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]This just points up the need to introduce Faith-based Mathematics in America's schools and universities, as an alternative to "secular mathematics."
After all, 1+1=2 is "just a theory". (Since no two particles of anything in the universe are exactly alike, you cannot PROVE that 1+1=2.)
In the Bible, however, 1+1=3 (See Adam + Eve = Cain), 3=1 (see the Trinity), and 5+2=multitude (see loaves and fishes). So Faith-based Math provides a valid alternative which students need for a "balanced" education.
And the advantage of Faith-based Math is that the Budget WOULD balance! A trillion in revenues minus 2 trillion in spending would, by faith, equal fiscal responsibility!
We don't need a better Congress, just better math.

Unethical judges
[Read the article: Bush judge under ethics cloud]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]As a retired attorney, I think the public would be shocked if they really knew how many unethical judges there are. In my nine years of practice, I met only two honest judges. All the rest were beholden to the people who got them on the bench and to the attorneys practicing before them who gave money for their re-elections.

The sad end of abortion
[Read the article: Hey, is that a unicorn? No, just a little good news about abortion]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]In 2004, women in significant numbers went to the poles and helped re-elect George W. Bush. They had heard from him and his supporters for more than four years that he opposed abortion, yet they voted for him.
As a man, in my mind, I compare it to blacks voting for Alabama Governor George Wallace at the time when he was an avowed racist.
Yet the blacks who voted for Wallace were a very small percentage of the total. Women, on the other hand, went for Bush in large numbers.
In the future, when people ask "where did legal abortion go?", the answer will be "a large percentage of women voted against it."

It could have been avoided
[Read the article: Dick Cheney and the grassy knoll]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]ALL of this could have been avoided, so easily.
Once the shooting occured, Cheney should have designated Mr. Whittington an "enemy combatant", had him transported to Guantanamo, and put everyone there on notice that the incident was a "national security" matter whose disclosure would "aid terrorism".
They just didn't think straight or fast enough.

Cartoons and the First Amendment
[Read the article: Them damn pictures]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Dear Mr. Marlette,
I'm certain that you would give the same defense if Muslim newspapers all over the world showed [first panel] Jesus in a meadow saying "Suffer the little children to come unto me." and [second panel] Jesus fellating a little boy while other children sttod in line.
I know, I know, Islam acknowledges Jesus as a prophet and Muslims would never draw such a cartoon. But if, Mr. Marlette, if.....
Would born-again Christians say "Oh, it's just a cartton. Lighten up!"??
Or might they burn down a few Muslim newspapers???

"Choose Life" meaning
[Read the article: My car is antiabortion too!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]If I saw "Choose Life" on a license plate, all I would think is that it's an anti-suicide message.
Since it takes roughly $250,000 to raise a child to age 21 in a middle-class family, I think the plate should say "Choose Poverty".

To Hell With Them??
[Read the article: What ever happened to the "Pottery Barn" rule?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Amazing how many Conservatives say they are Christian, yet make statement that equal "To Hell With Christ's Teachings!!"
"Love thy neighbor"?? Jesus, you're an IDIOT!!
"Do good to them that hate you"?? Jesus, you're an America-hating lover of terrorists!!!
"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you"??? Christ, you're a f-----g FOOL!!!

Domestic phone call intercepts
[Read the article: From Gonzales, hints of another spying program]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I wish I had saved the sources, but within two months after 9/11, I read a number or articles in newspapers and on the internet which said:
- ALL electronic communications within the United States are scanned and recorded by the National Security Agency. All worldwide communications are as well, but the articles talked specifically about domestic telephone and internet communications.
- Everything is initially scanned by the NSA computer systems, which are programmed to look for certain "hot" words or phrases. (I'd give examples, but then the NSA would send Homeland Security around to investigate/"disappear" me.)
- Messages which "trip" the computer programs are then disgorged to real, live NSA workers who analyze the messages, then send them on if they warrant further action.
The articles read as if someone (or some agency) was trying to reassure the American people that every effort was being made to monitor domestic, as well as worldwide, communications in order to fight the "War on Terrorism."
So rest easy, everything you send or receive (including this message) is being intercepted and computer scanned. Don't worry at all about how easy it would be to program the computers to "trip" certain political views, or certain information that would provide blackmail fodder, or certain financial information to enable insider trading, or.....
