Thanks for visiting but stay at home

No offence but an American with enough sense to flee a pointless military occupation is still an American. Nice to have as a visitor now and then but not really that great as a neighbour. Stay at home and fight for what you believe in.

Smug and self righteous

"No offence but an American with enough sense to flee a pointless military occupation is still an American. Nice to have as a visitor now and then but not really that great as a neighbour. Stay at home and fight for what you believe in."

Sorry if those words caused Xeynon to feel that I was being smug and self righteous. God forbid anyone should be overly critical of Americans.

What I was trying to say was that the same soldier that is now looking for sanctuary in Canada was undoubtably critical of Canada's disinvolvement in the Iraq "war" when it began, as were most Americans. (Thank god we aren't the French who you still haven't forgiven for not wanting to support you) I live in Canada and I remember what Americans said about us not supporting the US in Iraq. (Forget about the fact that we did go to Afghanistan where Bin Laden was actually hiding) You are shitty smug neighbours that don't like upitty countries having their own opinion..

I stand by what I said. If you want to make a change don't flee your country, stand and fight. And stop being such pussies when someone calls you out on something.

America deserves Brit Hume

Brit Hume is the sort of "journalist" that America's founding fathers warned you about. Sadly he is also the sort of "journalist" that America now deserves.

Feelin' Stupid

I just now realized that all the posts professing a belief in god were not meant to be ironic.

Boy do I feel stupid.

ColdStonelicious

I fall smack in the middle of that cynical, Anti-American crowd that hates things like ColdStone Creamery.....but I have to say that the two times I have been there I really liked it. Monkey Bites (Banana Ice Cream, Coconut, Pecans, Bananas and crunchbar bits) yum! The girls working in Leavenworth sang all the time and seemed to be having a blast, and the kids at the San Fransisco store were bright and really friendly.

Maybe if I ate there more than once a year on holidays I would find it an oily, goopy disgusting mess served by annoying employees with horrible voices. But I don't eat there that often and maybe thats the trick.

At home I eat at my local ice cream place that makes its own ice cream and cones, closes for 5 months in the winter (even though there is a market all year long), accepts only cash and has no plans to expand. Then once a year I dip into the ColdStone. It's like Christians visiting Vegas. We know it's wrong but it tastes so good.

Falwell's followers are still alive and kicking.

Falwells dead!

With all due respect to his family; thank god!

That said, his followers are all still out there preaching the same vile un-Christian hatred that he did. We tend to forget that douche-bags like Falwell, Bush (and just to be dramatic, Hitler) are supported by thousands if not millions of other people and without their support these people would be nothing. Demonizing someone like Falwell lets those who supported him off the hook. His followers are all culpable and some of the hatred towards him should be redirected to those that support his legacy.

You go BotBot!

BotBot is dead on the money. Evangelicals are the dirty diapers of Christianity and the sooner those Eurocentric suck-bags are replaced with true American Christians like Mormons the better. Seriously; aside from Mormanism all other major religions were started by foreigners. Voting for anyone but Mitt Romney is anti-American.

Quit blaming others for the lack of healthcare.

As a Canadian I have to admit to a profound confusion as to why any nation that can afford it would not have some form of universal healthcare. But America is a democratic country and the electorate makes its own decisions as to what it wants. If politicians thought that they would be elected on a pro-healthcare platform they would push for it no matter the resistance from big medicine. People can't keep blaming corporations for what they lack; corporations are not the government, people are the government. But Americans have to first really want something like universal healthcare before it will happen. Until then the electorate have no one to blame but themselves.

I hope that one day everybody in the US will know the feeling of not having to worry about healthcare costs. Maybe Michael Moore's movie will get the ball rolling but it's hard to be too optimistic when you think of the number of people in America who are uninsured or underinsured and will still attack this film.

tiberius is misinformed

tiberius writes

"Interview some people who have happily left France, Cuba, Canada and happily become American citizens.

They'll tell you the other side of Moores film."

I cannot speak for France and Cuba but I can say with complete confidence that no Canadian has ever left Canada for the US to trade healthcare systems. Canadians are free to go wherever we want (including Cuba; unlike the US we are truly a free country) and many Canadians leave Canada, either temporarily or permanently for hundreds of reasons but never because we are envious of US healthcare.
