Kerry was already a no-go

for 2008. Who wants another tired retread?

But Sen Clinton looks like a jerk by piling on and repeating the repub spin. It won't help with Dem primary voters, and repubs already hate her. Lose, lose.

Original article: Kerry's words, Bush's war

Stay on our game

"I really do not care for the customary Defeatocrats who are critizing Kerry in any way today; this plays right into the right wing spin."

Joe Schmidt is right. Dems need to stop piling on Kerry and whining about repub shills spinning like hula hoops.

This story brings up the ideal opportunity to point out how the chickenhawk brigade, too stupid to figure out that invading Iraq without a plan wasn't going to work, are the last people who should be trusted with running our country.

Pluleez!

"I am always suspicious of any Democrat whose main selling point is his so-called "moderation" and a call to work together and end partisanship in Washington."

Morris Sheppard - I'm with you on this one. Unless Dems have a super-majority of both houses, working with moderate repubs to get things we want will happen of its own accord. I am not interested in Dem candidates who are already compromising with the repubs and we get nothing out of it - No Child's Behind Left, Immigration "Reform", Operation Iraqi "Freedom" - Dems got no credit from repubs or voters for going along with this crap. Enough with the appeasers!

Younger viewers

"But women who get hooked on soaps mostly do so as adults, in large part because children are in school while they are being aired."

Lots of daytime soap addicts in their 30s-40s became hooked as HS and college students. Don't know if Guiding Light is the right choice, though.

I agree with LeCastor

"I don't really think this will matter. It's the 4th state after all, and it's NJ, not Georgia."

This ruling will have little impact on the NJ senate race as the AmTaliban has little influence among NJ voters, even repubs. Where they select extreme-right candidates for statewide office, they always lose.

Stranger than fiction

This discussion parallels the award-winning Connie Willis short story, "Even the Queen". Worth taking a look.

Baghdad instead of DC?

"face 'em there so we don't have to face 'em here"

Somehow I don't think the residents of London and Madrid are buying that logic.

Won't vote for Clinton in the primary

I really don't care that much about Sen Clinton's journey from First Lady to Senator and now to Presidential Candidate. What I do care about, as noted by other posters, is too much of our government turning into a cabal of connected families - whether they are Bushs, Cheneys, Clintons, Carters, Kennedys.

Our "democracy" is already becoming a global laughingstock. Our elections should be monitored by the UN. Our leaders preach democracy and meritocracy, then turn around and figure out how their families and friends can cash in on the no-bid contracts and assorted boondoggles.

Enough of the Bushes, enough of the Clintons. While it is unfortunate that Sen Clinton seems to be as qualified as any of the other folks running, I have no interest in trading the White House from GHWB to WJC to GWB to HRC. Who's next - Jebbie? Or Jenna? Or another annointed Kennedy?

Red Carpet Moment

"She's going to hide Tom Waits in her bra while she sings."

Excellent! Isaac Mizrahi will probably pull him out of her dress whe he pats her down at the Grammys!

I love these guys!

Watching the AmTaliban tying themselves in knots trying to hold onto GOP power/cash is like a bad episode of Survivor. These cretins (Dobson, Robertson, etc) are the same bunch who preach on beating the gay out of children, or beating them for any old reason. They run those "boot camps" for troubled teens that have been shut down on abuse and rape charges. These folks are tooo sick.

Chrinos

"The "true" Christians that I know don't spew about their faith and how it makes them superior to others. They do good works, help others, and tolerate and love people like me who do not share their faith. In other words, they are Christ-like"

Good comment, Pacificrim.

I think these pharisees are part of the Cargo Christian denomination. They are all about the cargo - figuring out how they call fill their bank accounts with somebody else's hard-earned money.

Original article: What else we're reading

It's not about size 20

The real issue is about walking skeletons - 5'10" 105lb women being deified as the standard of beauty and anyone in the public eye who is above a size 0 is ruled as not "perfect".

I have seen the industry up close, and many of these women do not naturally have a BMI of 17%. They smoke alot, use all kinds of appetite suppresants, etc in order to maintain the look.

Waiting for the other shoe to drop

Foley is everywhere. I'm expecting he'll show up on Dateline's weekly predator sting next!

I like this Foley...

he's a multitasker.

Original article: Hollywood's coolest chicks

It's not the movies anymore

It has been known for a long time that the place for women (of all ages and sizes) to succeed is on television. Actresses, writers, directors, etc are making megabucks and exerting alot of influence on TV (broadcast, cable, etc). The focus on Hollywood movies is short-sighted.

Tuesday, October 3, 2006 10:11 AM

You said it!

"We need to give these psychochristians their head. Over the long run they'll just breed to level of retarded Phillistines"

I agree with SR. These reichwingnuts will eventually devolve themselves out of existence. When their AmTaliban offspring show up for job interviews and can barely qualify for counterwork at McD's, they might start to understand the value of edumacation!

Brain wasting disease

now his office says that he doesn't remember a conversation with Reynolds but doesn't have any reason to doubt Reynolds' claim that one occurred." Condi doesn't recall being warned of the threat of a terrorist attack. Have you noticed selective memory is very popular with this bunch?"

It appears that a virus is going around - and these dolts are losing their memory. Perhaps the Surgeon General should conduct some testing for dementia or alzheimers?
