You must have lived in Japan quite a while ago, because what you say is not the way it is:

Japanese policemen ALWAYS carry guns, and do on ocassion, loose them at the bad guys. But yes, there aren't many guns in the nation as a whole. Of course, the bad guys have them -- the old adage "When guns are outlawed, then only outlaws will have guns" is a truism. Yes, there is some "hunting" in the remote mountainous areas, but it is not for "sport" as much as it is to keep bears and wild boars under control. Your average Japanese alread know that they are smarter than a duck, and there is no great desire to kill something just because you can.

Drunk driving is severely frowned upon, although public drunkeness is not. Hey, you can even pee on the street if you want. Public smoking is okay, but a recent law makes it mandatory for a special card to be used for purchases to be made at machines. I think that the machines will gradually phase out as people do not want to give personal information to anybody, let alone the government. Never, ever trust the government . . .

shooter, what is a 'liberal'?? Who exactly are these people on the 'left'?? You seem to paint everyone who doesn't salute your flag or share the same 'values' as you as being liberals or lefties. I disagree. You have to pin labels on those who disagree with you because you are weak. And you are operating on the basest of all human institutions -- the tribe, the clan, the "us" against the "them" factor. It's all about unthinking obedience. That's the America I don't like. That's your America. An imagined America. I don't like your America. I don't like your values.

I don't think your values / ideals are are shared by the majority of people in America. So don't somehow try to make them sound like the 'norm'. They ain't.

Jaysus, you are right about dancing on the graves of those who have recently passed on. It isn't right. So, shame on those who jigged when anybody's time has come. We should be angry at those who gloat at the passing on of someone, but don't turn it into some kind of finger pointing exercise -- there is plenty of that nastiness on every side.
