All The Right Reasons . . .
[Read the article: The NYT's latest Kristol embarrassment]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]LWM posts as to why he will boycott the Olympics (what, you ain't gonna buy a stuffed panda bear??). And goes off on one of his cut & paste & educate tangents as to why he'll boycott the Chinese Olympics -- because they're using American money (??) and technology (?!?) to bug their citizens. Very laudable, I'm sure. Most folks are boycotting them because they illegally invaded and are brutally occupying a sovereign nation. Imagine the nerve of those guys.

Worser & Worser
[Read the article: Major new ad campaign -- aimed at Blue Dog Rep. Chris Carney -- begins]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Jaysus. The politicos are bad enuff, but you should see the folks that elects 'em in the first place. C'mon. The fish rots, so they say, from the head down. I suggest the opposite. It's amazing what folks put up with. GWB as a president for EIGHT years??? Only in America, altho' they've had to put up with Rober Mugabwe for a heck of a lot longer. It truly is amazing what people believe. I've heard & seen people talk with derision about the (urban-mythical) Muslim belief of the 47-virgins-in-heaven thingee, yet these same folks believe in the rapture. Slap-your-forehead silliness. And people believe. Yep, get a new President and suddenly America and Americans arenm't going to be asshats anymore . . .
Nah, I really do believe you gets what you pays for.

davy sugarman gone black?
[Read the article: The California marriage decision and basic civics]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Good gawd. Another angry man railing against . . . whatever. If you ain't black, you're an asshat. If you are black, you ain't black enough and that makes you an asshat. At least m. GThrasher does know where the shift key is. Dang, bebop/daddy-o/GC, the man posts more than you . . .

It Does Get Weird At Times
[Read the article: Israel imposes a 10-year ban on American critic of Israeli policies]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Somewhere, sometime along the thread it all kinds of bleeds out, then the bouquets or the bombs come out. Folks get either kissy-face, or they start ripping into each other. And then, gawd help us, it just gets plain silly -- you look up at the blue header (at least it's blue from where I sit): "Israel imposes a 10-year ban on American critic of Israeli policies", and you wonder why folks are on about kumquats or whatever.
Sheesh, I would have thought this thread might come a little closer to home -- you know, how many people have been refused entry into THE HOMELAND and for what silly reasons, and why there are literally hundreds of thousands of people on the no-fly-lists -- "Sorry Mr. Blase, but you aren't flying today. No, we can't tell you why, that's a security secret. Who do you talk to? Sorry sir, we can't tell you that. Don't get upset sir, or we'll have to call security to restrain you. Sir, lower your voice. Don't resist sir, or we'll have to taser you . . . "

Leggo My Eggo
[Read the article: Israel imposes a 10-year ban on American critic of Israeli policies]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]ie. Egging on the idjits. Feeding the trolls. Stoking the fires of unreason. Yes, the best policy is to leave these troubled folks to go about their way, and not fuel their frail, and very bent egos. I know the reaction is to jump to the defense, man the walls, try and refute the illogical. But that is what these freaks feed on. Unpaid Annie Coulter and Michelle Malkin wanna-be's, they do for free what the professional-wingnut pamphleteers do for a penny a word. So, yes, refrain from the impulse.

Paul Robeson
[Read the article: Israel imposes a 10-year ban on American critic of Israeli policies]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Sysprog wrote & posted: "A week later, on Sunday, May 18, 1952, Paul Robeson, who hadn't been allowed to go to Vancouver , BC (or any other foreign destinations) gave a concert to a crowd in Canada from a platform in Blaine, WA, a few inches inside the US-Canada border. (Actually, the crowd was milling about and ignoring the border, and the FBI agents and RCMP agents were tripping over each other while trying to get snapshots of everybody).
Here's a recording of Robeson speaking that day, and singing:

Jaysus, thanks for that. Where did we go wrong? What happened? How did we get to where we are now? Where have all the decent people gone? All you need do is read the letter that follows yours, sysprog, and it makes a decent human being want to weep. "Israel", froths the sugarman (yes Davie, I'm outta here), "doesn't need more Arabs." And this poor sad old planet doesn't sure as hell doesn't need any more sugarmen.

Hysteria? Yes. War? No.
[Read the article: Network news anchors praise the job they did in the run-up to the war]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"The massive attacks on Dan Rather is another object lesson in what happens to an honest journalist in a time of war hysteria."
I keep hearing, reading about a war. Not a war. An agressive attack on a non-belligerent nation, and an occupation. All based on lies and the idea that America has carte blanche to do as The Homeland™ sees fit. After all, what's good for GM© is good for America. C'mon, it ain't personal, it's bidness.

Then There Was Cubby, Of Course
[Read the article: Network news anchors praise the job they did in the run-up to the war]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]And Spin & Marty, and Fess Parker as ol' whatsisname. Back in the goodle-days, when men were men and there was news on the tube. None of this pretty boy / pretty girl fluff. I think it all sarted to go downhill with Ted on the Mary Tykler Moorse show. The archetypical Nooze guy. Dumber than a bag of hammers . . .
Hell, we're even past the Talking Head stage, now we have Teleprompter Heads.

Mary Tykler Moorse Show???
[Read the article: Network news anchors praise the job they did in the run-up to the war]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]totallyblase tripped & stumbled when his nimble fingers typed: "I think it all sarted to go downhill with Ted on the Mary Tykler Moorse show."
Now there's a sentence you don't see everyday . . .
I think I meant to say: "I think it all started to go downhill with Ted on the Mary Tyler Moore show.
