Give Us A Little Truthiness

Electo Lux writes: "the Beeb openly stakes its reputation on being UNbalanced, it's openly and proudly leftist and dares anyone to question that. And the Beeb is in part owned by the government. So I'm not convinced what changing ownership rules accomplishes."

From an article (http://www.zmag.org/content/showarticle.cfm?ItemID=4611): "Greg Dyke, the BBC's director general, has attacked American television reporting of Iraq. "For any news organisation to act as a cheerleader for government is to undermine your credibility," he said. "They should be... balancing their coverage, not banging the drum for one side or the other." He said research showed that, of 840 experts interviewed on American news programmes during the invasion of Iraq, only four opposed the war. "If that were true in Britain, the BBC would have failed in its duty."

Did Dyke say all this with a straight face? Let's look at what research shows about the BBC's reporting of Iraq. Media Tenor, the non-partisan, Bonn-based media research organisation, has examined the Iraq war reporting of some of the world's leading broadcasters, including the US networks and the BBC. It concentrated on the coverage of opposition to the war.

The second-worst case of denying access to anti-war voices was ABC in the United States, which allowed them a mere 7 per cent of its overall coverage. The worst case was the BBC, which gave just 2 per cent of its coverage to opposition views - views that represented those of the majority of the British people. A separate study by Cardiff University came to the same conclusion. The BBC, it said, had "displayed the most pro-war agenda of any [British] broadcaster"."

Some folks may write with excrement, you seem to be happy to fling it . . .

Chickens Coming Home To Roost, Whaddever . . .

So, I turn on CNN, and it's the-oldest-man-in-the-world show, ie. Larry 'Mr. Interview' King himself. And they've got good old Jimmy Carter on, plugging a new book. And besides Larry, they've got the regular ghoul squad on -- a bunch of smiling certified Catcher-In-The-Rye phonies passing themselves off as 'experts'. And of course the banter goes to how Condi Rice got caught being a bald-faced liar -- yet again. Yet they infer it was ol' Jimmy himself who lied. I means, it's what Condi does. It's her job -- she lies for the gummint. And gets paid very well, thank you, for doing it. And she does it well -- nary a blink. And of course, these guys go into how Jimmy tried to bring Hamas to the peace table, and how that was totally unacceptable to the good decent people of the world, and then it got into Mr. Wright & his outrageous, unAmerican (whaddever the phawk that is supposed to mean), un-Christian, etc. remarks and how they're bringing Obama's morality / credibility / integrity etc. into question. And the most outraged, most wattle-shaking, most visibly upset talking head (doing his Jack Straw snake-over -- sans spectacles) was Ari Fleischer. Talking about 'moral compasses'. This lying POS two-bit ex-beard talking about moral compasses -- and the other hacks nodding their heads in agreement. And Ari, jowls flapping in prissy mouthed disdain, sporting his American flag lapel pin (I wonder which flag pin he wears when he travels under his Israeli passport?) telling the world (well, not exactly, only ol' Larry's audience) that Obama was going to burn, burn I tell you, burn in hell because he associated with a preacher who had the gall to suggest that perhaps the chickens did come home to roost on 9/11, and that it wasn't blowback . . . .

rant over.

Blowing Folks Up Is Already SOP

Actually shooting missiles into Pakistan (and killing folks, but that's their problem for being there in the first place, rith?) without official Pakistani permission is already SOP for the spooks & other freaks running around in those border areas. Do they give a shit about the repercussions? I rather doubt it. "According to the principles of jus ad bellum, as codified in the U.N. charter, one nation can attack another only in self-defense. That doesn't mean you can launch a full-scale attack in response to a tiny incursion." But since when does the U.S., or Israel, give a rat's ass about international law?? In other words, if a law doesn't work in your advantage, screw it. If it does work in your advantage, scream bloody murder . . . .

I guess Obama is just adhering the status quo.

P!ssing Against The Wind

The poster formerly known as Hornet Driver until he forgot his password (I'm sure glad you aren't handling any heavy equipment, amigo) but is now known as HornetDriver chirps in: "Oh, and Glenn? Stick to pissing in your pants. You can't do the humor thing." I think we'll leave the 'pissing in one's pants' (is it just me or isn't that about the dumbest, most irrelevant, and just plain silly you've read all day)to the Dick Cheneys and other fear-mongers. But the humor thing?? Humor isn't easy. For some folks it's a natural thing, for others it's a hard row to hoe. James Wolcott is funny, even droll. Michelle Malkin is funny, but unintentional. And you sir, are no judge of funny IMHO. Stick to pissing into the wind, my friend.
