outraged anew

Sorry I haven't read any of the letters but I'm not surprised there are so many.

This whole Jessica Lynch and Pat Tillman thing just gets me unglued. I can think of no other story in the last 6 years that outrages me more than the complicity of the press in the war in Iraq. NOTHING makes me more upset.

The details of these two stories have been out for a while, but of course they have trickled out in bits and pieces unlike the great hoopla they were at critical moments in the PR campaign for the war. So news junkies like me (and the rest of you reading this) know how fabricated they were but the average joe doesn't.

Out of curiosity, I went to FOX online to see how they'd cover these recent hearings; their bias is unbelievable. They buried the story, and when I found it, they acted like it was all out of date and why on earth is anyone focusing on it now? AS IF THE RUBBERSTAMP REPUBLICAN CONGRESS ISN'T DIRECTLY TO BLAME FOR THE DELAYED INVESTIGATION!!!!

an idea

I think everybody should send to their local newspaper's ombudsman a link to Glenn's column and, more importantly, to the letters in response. The MSM is living in a dreamworld if they do not see a problem with their complicity and/or laziness, and I would think that publishers of local newspapers would appreciate this window into what intelligent consumers of news really think. Let's all do it. Maybe a few will take it seriously and begin to insist on real reporting. OK, let me dream. But seriously, do it.

Original article: Hillary's Video Resume

Why the sarcasm?

Not sure I get the sarcasm here, video dog. I didn't catch anything untrue or even exaggerated here. I'm one who adamantly swore I wouldn't vote for Hilary b/c of her war vote, but this stuff is absolutely true. I know there's an edge of opportunism to Hilary that makes some of us uncomfortable, but I suppose in men they call that "ambition." None of that undoes her achievements or the reason behind her achievements, which I believe is a lifelong belief that she can make a difference for the disenfranchised.

hollow pandering

Wow--Can't believe so little mention of Ron Paul in the article. He was the hit for me.

To the person who thought this was a "real" debate: Are you crazy? Maybe compared to others, but not real at all. It was just pandering. How about the torture dialogue? They all said we should go as far as we can go, but then threw in "Not torture" quietly and quickly somewhere in their answer. So they could have it both ways. Nobody pressed the other on it, of course, b/c then they themselves would be challenged to come up with a real answer. And why did nobody challenge Guiliani's facile comeback to Paul? Like, "Rudy, are you saying we shouldn't learn all we can about the enemy's motivations? Are you saying it's wrong to consider what they're thinking? Isn't there some nuance that you're missing here, like that we could be innocent victims of an attack but still learn about the contributive causes?" Instead, everybody jumped on the Patriotic Bandwagon. Asking Paul to retract his statement? What a tool. I literally never heard of Paul before but I LOVED that he didn't back down. You don't find that with too many politicians.

About the audience: I was shocked at all the applause points. Exactly the opposite of when I would. Like at the torture stuff, at the simplistic patriotic posturing, at the tough-guy war-mongering. I thought there'd be some progressive students there, but I suppose the audience was screened. I found the audience the creepiest of all.

To the person who wonders if Ron Paul has some kind of internet marketing strategy: I think I speak for many when I say that I never heard of him but was impressed with his answers. Don't crucify me, but I think that intelligent people are internet savvy (I'm not young but I figured out early on that this was the next new thing) and I think intelligent people liked Ron Paul's complex answers in the black and white world of FoxNews

Original article: Manufacturing belief

A charming man

I like this guy. He seems to be getting grief from both sides, but of course it's his lack of militantism, his breezy nonbelief combined with his lack of contempt for believers, that makes him so charming.

I really like how he treats his son--with respect even if they disagree. What more do you people want? He seems like an honest man, a great parent, a practical thinker, a good scientist. If the world had more of the likes of him, I think we'd do well.

Original article: The greening of Fox

What bothers me so much...

Is that this is what Gore was saying 15 years ago. That "greening" is good business, I mean. He envisioned America being out front on environmental technology, the world's leader. He was PRO-BUSINESS b/c he recognized the problem of limited natural resources and proposed that we capitalize on it. And he was mocked as a hoot owl advocate.

It's a little late, Murdoch. I don't mind when people come late to a party, but it's shameful to trample reputations on the long, tortuous way in. Rather than a gradual slide into this position, acting like it's a given, I think an acknowledgment of past blindness on the issue is in order.
