Ayers, you son of a bitch, I will never forgive you because you weren't that significant in ending the war; indeed, I'm convinced that the Weathermen, above all, extended it by angering and blinding Americans from understanding the evil ramifications of that war. Your bright idea of the Weathermen with it's convoluted mission virtually mandated that it would take much longer for the American public to come to its senses and object to the Vietnam war. And with that, you virtually polarized every single American who works with their bodies into the arms of right-wing conservatism and into the politics of fear and injustice. You really do have to be out here among the populace to even slightly comprehend what I mean. You really do. Otherwise, you operate in a naive Ivory Tower which you don't in any way deserve to enjoy.
In the interest of being brief here, I won't belabor describing the many Americans who a liberal intellectual must, and still does, fear, nor the enormous chasm you created between those who operate on rationalness and those who let the forces of greed, bad government, and self interest rule not just Americans, but the world. This last sentence is extremely loaded because you essentially gelded American ideals and made true Democracy, as well as an honest republic, impossible. Think about it, you've hurt the world and the very people you cared about magnaminously and thus became a significant heavy in the problems our nation faces today.
I know this, because for forty years I've lived among the avrage American, mostly alone intellectually. I must verifibly try to avoid tripping on this chasm everyday of my life as I try to live a liberal life and have opinions, make decisions, and be the kind of American I thought I could be, the kind of American all other Americans can be proud of.
You have no idea how much this chasm has brought this country to its knees intellectually. You played a huge role, not in ending the war, but in feeding the trough of ignorance and intellecutal reticense. You've made my life and my ideals for a just and peaceful world, shit.
