Halle in Esquire
[Read the article: Everything's coming up Tina Fey]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I don't really care how empowered you are, what makes you think I want to hear about your orgasms? Seriously, I'd respect you a lot more if you kept your personal life to yourself instead of using it to mold your image for your public.

Smart
[Read the article: Obama ad hits McCain's "I am not President Bush" comment]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Using McCain's face is smart - he looks old and unhealthy, not to mention cranky. He just doesn't have a very likable demeanor (at least in these debates, I'm sure he's a joy at a party). Couple that with his sagging poll numbers and he looks fairly undesirable overall.

everything she does is offensive, let's face it
[Read the article: It's Trig time!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]As long as there is consistency, they can live on any old schedule.
Well that's the point, a baby needs consistency in his schedules. Being hauled out at 10:30 for the debate doesn't seem consistent unless Palin's having a debate every night.
While I agree Palin uses all her kids as a prop, taking an older kid to a rally or a Flyers game is not out of bounds. But subjecting an infant to the camera lights or the noise of a rally crowd seems really unnecessary and unseemly. Couldn't she just be seen carrying him to the car or something, does she have to hold him up and wave him to the crowd like a anti-abortion flag?

Bristol
[Read the article: It's Trig time!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]If Bristol was this involved in caring for her siblings, and her family will be this involved with her baby/ the new family member, being pregnant at 17 doesn't seem like such a tragedy.
Well she'll need an involved family, what with both her and her boyfriend being high school drop-outs and living hundreds of miles apart.

School?
[Read the article: It's Trig time!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The pregnant 17 year old ought to cramming her education in as quickly as possible
She's already dropped out of high school so that's not an issue for her.
I think the younger girls are probably getting a great education on the campaign trail. Hopefully they have a tutor along as well so they don't get behind when they get back in 2 1/2 short weeks.

@mdwilliams
[Read the article: It's Trig time!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]i'm truly surprised to hear so many people here saying that babies that age don't really need schedules
I think that must be just the childless speaking. Anyone who's been home with a 6 month old knows how much they need schedules.

Did Glenn Greenwald read this article?
[Read the article: Dissecting Cindy McCain's private world]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]After reading Greenwald's criticism, I was expecting a gossipy slanted article about Cindy McCain. It was not, it is a profile of the person who could be the First Lady. Is that off limits? I really don't see why it would be. Yes, Cindy has some demons in her past and the article mentions them, but does not dwell on them at all. Nor does the article try to present those demons as fresh gossip.
I found it to be an interesting profile on a public figure that we don't actually know much about (besides her drug addiction). Like most times you learn more about someone like this, it makes the person seem a little bit more human and thereby more sympathetic. We got see beyond the ice queen barbie. All the NY Times did was take public information and put it together to let us get a deeper look at Cindy McCain. What's the big deal?

Good sport?
[Read the article: The rap on Palin]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]OK, so she was a good sport about being mocked and humiliated, but she was still mocked and humiliated. I don't see how Palin comes out ahead in that equation. Kudos to SNL for not backing down. All the laughs came from Fey and Poehler (OMG she was great!), not Palin.

I hope she gets to see him elected!
[Read the article: Obama's own campaign suspension]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]How heartbreaking would it be if she died right before seeing her grandson elected to the presidency? I hope she's ok for two more weeks, at least.
We'll see Palin saying, in her signature tone, "What if Barack goes off to grandmother's house and Putin rears his head?"
I think that would backfire very badly on Palin. Criticizing someone for visiting their dying grandma? How cold is that? She'd be kicking puppies next.
some more progressive voters will be reminded a) of W's habit of taking vacations no matter what's going on, and b) of Edwards' desire to run for president even though his wife has terminal cancer.
I don't see these as comparable situations. This isn't a vacation he's taking and he's not hauling his dying grandmother on the campaign trail. It's 2 days. If he was "suspending his campaign" a la John McCain, it would be a gamble. But this is just normal human emotions. And those who think he's too controlled in his emotions will see a more sensitive side.

This statement is truly sad
[Read the article: He's ramping up the pressure but I don't want to commit]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]should I move forward with him and expect the depression to fade with the fabled wonders of coupledom
Uh, without knowing the first thing about you, LW, I think I can safely say that if the thought of committing to this man makes you depressed, the depression will not go away with the fabled wonders of coupledom. If you're not feeling the fabled wonders now, you never will (with him). Trust your gut.

Of all the stupid things Palin has said and will say, this is the least of her problems
[Read the article: Talking to Sarah Palin]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I'm with Kate's original premise. It's not hard to make a public figure look stupid by pranking them. They're trying to be polite and professional through a bizarre situation. I think they do that with people at rallies all the time. Did you really expect her to hang up on Sarkozy even if she did find what he was saying odd?
I work with the public and I smile and nod and say hmmm to a lot of crazy people. Just because I'm polite and appear to be in agreement doesn't mean I'm not thinking "get me away from this crackpot".
I think this is a cheap way to make someone look dumb. The thing with Palin is, they could have just called her and asked her about thoughts on US - Canadian relations and she would have looked 10 times stupider.

Cheap shots where cheap shots aren't needed
[Read the article: Oh, Canada: The Palin prank explained]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The most disturbing thing is that she never once questioned in her own mind that this could have been a prank based on the contents of the conversation.
How do you know?
