  • Women do whaaaaat?

[Read the article: "An estimated 1 in 3 women have had an abortion, and I am one of them"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

If there's someone preventing research into male pregnancy or artificial wombs, brightstar, it's *NOT* women. It's the religious right (half of whom are women, but the other half of whom are men.)

Personally I am all for male pregnancy and artificial wombs. I wanted biological children so badly that I endured one pregnancy and am putting up with another one, but they are destroying my health. If my husband could have done it instead or I could have used an artificial womb, sign me up for that!

In case you didn't notice, the majority of the people who hand out research grants are men. The majority of people doing cutting edge bio-research are men. The majority of people in power are men. The majority of people in the media, who set the tone for what the ordinary people think about stuff, are men. Most bioethicists are men. So who exactly are the women who have the power to stop this important research, and where can I sign up to join them? I'd like to have the power to cut off research I don't like! I would totally cut off funding to right-wing think tanks and provisionally fund only economic and political research that actually pays attention to reality. If there's a secret cabal of powerful women controlling biological research, I so totally want to join.

But... there isn't. Except in your mind. Because, as little as you want to acknowledge it, WOMEN DO NOT RUN THE WORLD. MEN DO. If men really wanted to get pregnant, they would already have that ability, because it is *men* who have traditionally controlled the agenda of biological research. (Yes, the Pill was invented by men.)

  • Why would a male have nothing to do in a mostly female group?

[Read the article: Rated G for guys]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

A mostly-girl group would probably include a male precisely *because* he can do something nifty none of the girls can, in real life.

But honestly I think we need more shows that have a combination of male and female characters, in roughly equal proportions, where both males and females are strong, intelligent, and equally capable of being sexually interesting. I don't see why boys would want to watch a show where there are no interesting boys, but I also don't see why girls should be the only ones watching shows that have interesting girls. I think boys have no problem with interesting girls, it's uninteresting boys and girls they have problems with.

Was off her meds when she killed her kids.

    Just sayin'.
