  • Glenn's link

[Read the article: Alberto Gonzales testifies]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

doesn't work. Go to cspan.org, the link is front and center.

Golly this mans memory is bad. I have noticed lately that a very poor memory is required to testify before the Senate/Congress. Is there any chance they will Impeach this clown?!?

  • No Question

[Read the article: GOP presidential debate]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Well, I voted hopefully last night, but, as I feared. The question asked by Silent Patriot, while in the top 3 questions, seems to have disappeared between the preliminary and final rounds.

    Nice try though.

  • RON PAUL???

[Read the article: GOP presidential debate]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Should the President have power to imprison U.S. citizens without charging them with a crime and without providing them a judicial forum in which they can contest the accusations against them, as the Bush administration did to American Jose Padilla?

I stand corrected, if the question continues to get votes, they will ask the question of Ron Paul, Sen from Texas. But they will only ask Ron Paul. Since he is he front-runner.

    Cowards at Politico.

  • Call Now

[Read the article: Democrats bear responsibility for restoring habeas corpus]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Well, I called Ike Skelton, the Committee Chairman, from Missouri, at 202-225-2876. He is a freshman and like the other newly elected members should be reminded that they were put into office to address these very issues. I also called another congressman from my state on the committee with the same message. It took two minutes and the people I spoke with at each office were receptive and polite.

Call two members now. If you don't find the experience too painful, call a few more.

  • This sounds like a parody of the Republican debate!

[Read the article: What you missed while watching "Dancing With the Stars"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Surely this is not what REALLY took place in the second Republican Presidential Candidate Debate.

What was that? NOT a parody?

    Oh my.

  • Johnny Bravo for president.

[Read the article: Fred Thompson, "tough guy" and "folksy cultural conservative"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

So let me get this straight, Fred Thompson is like Greg Brady getting the job as Johnny Bravo in the Brady Bunch. He fits the suit, give him the gig. The Commanding Daddy is in the house. Thank god I have not had breakfast yet...

  • Well Said!

[Read the article: Our rotted press corps, a division of "Camp Victory"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

And, as usual, something that desperately needs to be said. But if you thought you recieved vicious and personally insulting comments last week, just wait and see what the wingnuts will say about this one!

(and don't expect a christmas card from Mr. Klein either)

  • Breaking News

[Read the article: How much credence should Gen. Petraeus' reports be given?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Bush just now, right before his hamburger-bun factory tour, had a "secure" tele-conference with his Generals in Baghdad. They implored our dear leader to not make any hasty decisions regarding Iraq before September, when General Petraeus has a chance to give his report on the progress of the "war".

(not even making that up - either MSNBC or CNN, I was going between the two channels)

And it was "Big News" because Bush interupted his schedule to talk to the Generals and all. And the lady on the news reported it, so it must have been important.

Just wait for the report, doesn't that seem reasonable? I mean, to change course before the top General has had a chance to give us his report on the progress in Iraq would be just rude.

    So, we wait.

  • And Nothing Happens

[Read the article: Bush's magical shield from criminal prosecution]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

And it certainly appears that nothing will happen. And it is worth considering, as none of the presidential candidates have made statements condemning the power grabs of the last 5 years, perhaps they too, would like these expanded powers for themselves?

Like our President said (in front of cameras), "this would be a lot easier if was a dictatorship, as long as I'm the dictator."

  • Grim Times

[Read the article: The mainstream, sane, serious Joe Lieberman]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

"Mike Gravel and Ron Paul are total wackos. And Iran is led by aggressive religious fanatics. And Tim Russert and Dick Cheney and Joe Lieberman are very serious and responsible and wise."

And that is why we will be at war with Iran before Bush leaves/is thrown out of office.

  • Why would they do this?

[Read the article: What Beltway media stars mean by "centrism" and "extremism"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Possibly because they think Hillary, with a large segment of the population already having a strong opinion of her, is the candidate they can beat.

Therefore, it is important that the beltway types feel Hillary "won" this (non)conflict. Because she is the candidate they think they could possibly win against in 2009?

  • Besides, Americans like to be fooled!

[Read the article: How our seedy, corrupt Washington establishment operates]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

This is certainly filthy, seedy, and corrupt, but is it illegal on any level? If not, then who will do anything about it. The media doesn't care, or are complicit in the fraud. Congress can't investigate, because if Zelikow is working for/avdising Bush/Cheney, executive privillege will obviously be claimed.

Heck, Zelikow could be officially on Cheney's staff for all we know, aren't their very names classified info?

Firedoglake has an interesting post this morning discussing "Plan C" (assuming ousting Maliki is Plan B). Military coup that will lead to democratic government once the country is under control.

Ahh, there's nothing like the smell of freedom being spread in the morning!

  • Retaliate?

[Read the article: The Democrats' responsibility in the wake of Gonzales' resignation]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

So if Bush breaks his agreement, and officially or unofficially (reset the "clock" multiple times with a "temporary" crony in the position) installs a "recess" Attorney General, how in the world would Reid "retaliate"?

Bush has no intention of allowing independence in the DOJ. Reid will bluster about yet one more broken promise by the administration. Investigations will disolve into the ether. Business as usual.
