Whatever, but...
[Read the article: News flash: Rape jokes aren't funny]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I could care less about the specifics of this intramural strife, but I would like to take issue with the headline of the article.
Like any kind of jokes, rape jokes can be either not funny OR funny.
I'm not just being glib. When we start saying what we can and cannot joke about, that's censorship--generally a bad thing in my book. And I've heard some great rape jokes. How about Sarah Silverman's bit in The Aristocrats?

Unnecessary surgery?
[Read the article: Breast cancer prevention, "Peeing Toms" and more]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Well, I'll definitely agree that she has a left hand on her right arm. But the hand on her left arm is ambiguous. Maybe she had her hands removed and reattached on the wrong arms?

Walter Mitty
[Read the article: Would-be pilots grounded by wives!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, by James Thurber. One of those classic short stories you should have read in high school. It's about a very average man who spends his days daydreaming of a life full of adventure.

[Read more letters about this article: Here]And why it's relevant: His wife bosses him around all the time. I think the story takes place while he dutifully follows his wife on a shopping excursion.
Anyway, I'm betting a quick wikipedia search could've added the impression of some literacy to your article. Research!

[Read the article: How to become the perfect, "surrendered" wife]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]About the "adding his last name to the children's surnames" thing:
Your surname IS your last name.
Not to be nitpicky... But I am.

Honor Killing = Misnomer of the Century
[Read the article: An "honor killing" in Iraq, captured by cellphone]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I think the author makes a good point that part of the horribleness of this sort of thing is the inability to do anything about it. There doesn't seem to be any practical way of addressing the issue. So with that in mind, I appreciate that the author added the links to organizations working in this area.
I think if people felt like we could DO something to move towards the elimination of this practice, we might start having some more constructive thoughts about it than, "Hell with it, let's just nuke those animals."
So, keep the constructive ideas coming.
PS--Religion sure sucks, huh?
