Why?
Someone who definitely couldn't care less about those lacking pedigree deserves tears?
I don't get it.
But, I'm African-American so I can say this;
The only explanation for Wells' behavior is that it’s just another case of an African-American prostituting themselves and therefore perpetuating institutional racism.
Starting with Chris Darden and tears in an attempt to convict OJ. Right down to Condoleezza Rice, and through of course Collin Powell and Clarence Thomas, we are piling up a shameless litany of those who will stop at nothing for the sake of self promotion.
Sympathy won by the true blood, sweat and tears of true Civil Rights pioneers is now a commodity to be marketed and it makes me sick!
Crying for Libby?
Give me a fucking break!
Give me my forty acres and a fucking mule so that I don't have to continually watch this degradation of a heritage that is as central to this country as its Constitution.
What's next?
Am I going to turn on the TV or open a newspaper one day and find out that Rush Limbaugh quotes a high ranking African American as stating Racism doesn't exist and never has?
Crying for Libby....what a bunch of BULLSHIT!
Once again Dick Cheney and his incompetence have left the US to be viewed as the world's laughing stock. The most powerful nation ever is nonetheless going full bore into the 21st century as buffons.
Here I was thinking the issue in a country we had clearly the right to invade was settled once that job was done. Symbolically, if nothing else, we should see Afghanistan as a place where terrorism will ALWAYS be abused.
But no.
They get to increase heroin production to record levels even when we know the money is funding the Taliban.
Now this!
Now I have to watch my Vice President threatened by a suicide bomber; and if that's not the equivalent of the sun trying to replace the moon I don't know what is.
As soon as he gets back on US soil he'll run his mouth. Blame it on the Democrats AND claim his efforts a success.
For shame....for shame!
This isn't journalism Salon. I've supported you so please don't see this as criticism from a malcontent. This article is set in the same tone as some of your reporting on the efficacy of video games and the high art value of TV.
I wasn't able to follow Mark Benjamin's reporting because of the same format.
Please make up your mind on the type of site you are going to be. Please stop trying to be the hippest site for the "Friends" crowd, in other words.
As far as this story is concerned it has its own set of issues. If female soldiers are being rapped as a matter of habit that all but says they're not fit for service.
That's not a comment along the lines of complaining about tight clothing getting unwanted comments that shouldn't be made.
If you have a gun, have been trained to use it and don't what am I supposed to do? Also, stop attempting to exploit the gang mess that was Tailhook. Everyone want's the sympathy MLK used to role back segregation. Once and for all, get it through your heads, non-violence in that case was an attack on this society's lack of compassion.
Be aggressive about your rights!
Period!
And Salon please stop being afraid of serious reporting!
I'm sure you've heard this before; you are running the risk of being captured by agents who want nothing more than "commercial" content. You think your mission is using them but it's becoming the other way around.
Your entire set of articles on this subject have in fact been comprehensive and revealing.
Thank you for your efforts.
I don't have the time to find out what motivates this administration but I need to know. Your detailing of the participants in this latest debacle makes them clear. Of course, Rove would've outed Cheney; and Libby once loyal to the Vice President now finds himself beholden to him.
It all makes sense now. And you appropriately gave credit to Fitzgerald who through simply doing his job gives me hope.
Sad state of affairs when standards have gotten to such a point. By and large, just doing your job should go without mention. Still, Fitzgerald was excellent. A true American hero.
The bad hits just keep on coming for Bush don't they?
Sooner rather than later even he's going to figure that out.
Again, thanks.
Great job!
Sampson resigned because he figured doing so would save him from prosecution. What he knows, and has done, is as close to illegal as he was capable of, and he's simply trying to wash his hands of those deeds.
I also wish people would stop seeing a potential Gonzales resignation as some type of martyrdom. The Attorney General of the U.S. is not a minor player. He's the top law enforcement official in the country. If he goes down that's a significant blow to this administration. It will NOT be business as usual.
There will be for fewer wagons to circle if Gonzales is lost.
In fact, if you add a Gonzales departure to Rumsfeld's you get a pretty good picture of an administration coming a loose at the hinges.
This isn't the EPA selling land leases.
No, Gonzales' departure will be a turning point.
That's probably why it won't happen. As soon as the calculation of how much his lost would cost, Bush came out with his strongest support. That's the reversal of all the comments made in the situation that's most telling.
Who knew Gonzales was so incompetent though?
God Almighty!
What do these people think the government of the country is an intramural game?
Thanks for your time, too, Sidney.
Indeed, Viva La Salon!
