Why is the Ex so intriguing?
[Read the article: I have guilty knowledge about my girlfriend]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]What is this out-of-left-field business about feeling inadequate compared to the ex? Here is one thing we know to be true about the ex: he has the bad taste to blog very personal details, not just about himself but about his ex-girlfriend (and, at one time, girlfriend, since it sounds as though he blogged through the demise of the relationship). And he hardly does so anonymously, if you were able to find the blog.
This person is not a "tragically flawed character," regardless of how eloquent and witty his prose is. I have to ask why you are making him sound like Hamlet or Othello. He's an attention-seeking, inappropriate man who continues to hurt this poor woman long after their break-up. One could question a society (as someone before me did) in which people blog their break-ups. I question the man -- we all have the ability to do this, but most of us choose not to. If he is a wonderful writer, great -- he could write about a million subjects under the sun, why this?
I am kind of meandering here. I just don't understand how you can question how happy you will make a woman when comparing yourself to a man who does this sort of thing. Stop reading the blog, find another obsession, and please allow this letter to give you some perspective.
And btw: unless she is totally ignorant regarding the internet or is the type to live in denial, she is probably aware of the blog.

Age
[Read the article: How can I help my friend get over losing his girlfriend?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I can't be sure, but I suspect that people who become overly concerned with the age difference of couples they read about online are either old and sad that they are not young anymore/unable to bag young things anymore (of course would never admit this), or young and immature enough to be grossed out by the thought of sex with a 40ish or 50ish or 60ish person.
Anyone who has not met a young person wise/mature beyond their years or an older person with the spirit of a 20 year old needs to get out a bit more.

"Secret Lives" is not aimed at young women
[Read the article: Roundup: Viagra, women who like money and more]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]There is all kind of trash girls and young women can watch on television and that "Secret Lives" show is just the tip of the iceberg. Methinks the bloggers are having a typical conservative knee-jerk reaction to women who engage in various forms of the oldest profession, and are using children as their excuse to get slightly hysterical (good lord is this typical).
If you don't approve of sex work, fine. Say so yourself. Stop using kids as an excuse. The We channel is not targeted at them and is most likely unappealing to them. Attack "The Hills" on MTV for promoting a vapid, vaccuous, backstabbing lifestyle. Attack reality tv for promoting the idea that being an exhibitionist on television or finding love on television or doing anything at all, as long as it's on television, is something to strive for.
I'm thinking this show is intended to open minds -- to show seemingly "normal" people who live alternative lifestyles. And in that case, maybe I'd let my teenage daughter watch it if I had one, and we could discuss prostitution. Isn't that what you're supposed to do, watch tv and discuss with your kids?
If the only urging a child needs to become a webcam stripper is an hour-long program, I'm thinking this show is the least of her parents' worries.

An obvious flaw in the lawmakers' plans...
[Read the article: Pit bulls are innocent]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Um, dogfighting is illegal, yes? As is abuse of one's dog. So, obviously, people who are breeding and keeping pit bulls for fighting purposes, and training them to kill, are lawbreakers. I don't think the majority of them routinely parade these dogs in their front yards or on leashes for all to see; I don't know a ton about dogfighting, but they probably keep these animals hidden to some extent.
So it follows that these awful people will probably make up the majority of pit bull owners who do not obey new laws banning the breed. Responsible pet owners who walk their dog daily and otherwise publicly take care of their dogs (registering them with the city, etc.) will be forced to give them up because they will be easily found. Less visible "pet owners" who have probably always been rather covert about their vicious dogs may be able to better hide them.
So basically, these laws will have no effect on the events that inspired them -- dog fights will surely still exist -- while killing the dogs of responsible folk. Charming.
And seriously, Hans B -- if you weren't planning to teach your child not to kiss strange dogs of all breeds, thank god you aren't raising a pit bull. Or a golden retriever, or a cocker spaniel, or even a pug.

@ anonymous 2:17
[Read the article: No visible panty lines]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]No, they don't. Talk to women and you'll find that most women dress to impress... other women, if anyone. Seriously. Very few dress to impress men. Maybe occasionally when they go out for the evening, or know they will be running into an ex or something -- but this is rare.
I'm assuming you're a man.
