  • AL GORE FOR PRESIDENT

[Read the article: Angry, hateful liberal bloggers]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Glenn, your post today, as usual, was brilliant. Having also read Kamiya's post today about the wimpy Democrats who are ginning for a war with Iran, I am more than a little depressed about the state of our country. I urge Democrats and others who are about ready to give up on politics to take another look at Al Gore, who has transformed himself over the last seven years. His Martin Luther King Day speech of a year and half ago was my wakeup call to become involved in the process:

Gore is probably the only candidate who is not "afraid" of Iran and it's "horrible" dictator, who couldn't even polish the shoes of Hitler, let alone stand in them. Get involved in the process of getting Gore on the ballot, at least in California, where only 500 signatures in every county will get him on the ballot in the primary election in February. Go to California4Gore.org for more information and to get involved.

  • I'M NO LONGER A DEMOCRAT

[Read the article: The latest revelations of lawbreaking, torture and extremism ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Glenn's post today, brilliant as usual, has me thinking in angst about next year's elections. I have been long an advocate of Al Gore, but, as long as he stays out of the election, what are my choices? Hillary Clinton, she of nuanced positioning and harsh words for Iran? Barack Obama, he of thoughtful platitudes about wanting to be "non-political" in this take-no-prisoners political world? John Edwards, who speaks of "Two Americas," but still wants war with Iran? I agree with tempus, who suggests that there is really no difference between the parties. There is a difference: the Republicans have the balls to stand behind their extreme positions on everything from torture to anti-gay bashing to anti-women positions on abortion, etc. The Democrats don't stand for ANYTHING, and cave on every issue, especially torture, illegal wiretapping and rendition.

  • GLENN, YOUR ARTICLE SHOULD BE REQUIRED READING FOR EVERY CONGRESSPERSON

[Read the article: Joe Klein's defense of warrantless eavesdropping and telecom amnesty]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Glenn, today's article should be required reading for EVERY Congressperson and Senator. I will do my part, and make a copy of it for my Senators and Congressperson, and e-mail it to them. Everyone else should do the same. I can't believe that you are not yet a mainstream media commentator, ala Keith Olbermann. You are extremely intelligent and knowledgeable, and reflect that in your writings, unlike the Joe Kleins of this world. I guess intelligence is an endangered species these days.

  • ALL OF THE DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATES SHOULD BE WITH EDWARDS

[Read the article: John Edwards' dark leftist America]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

John Edwards' position on habeas corpus and warrantless wiretapping should be the position of EVERY Democratic candidate, and his idea about an international organization to root out terrorism is a good one. We need to demand that all Democratic candidates endorse Edwards' position, especially Hillary Clinton, or they don't get our vote. O'Reilly is a fine example of just how extreme the right-wingers have become, where they will literally mouth fascist statements, and get away with it because the ADL is too busy looking at the "left."

  • PUBLIC FINANCING OF CAMPAIGNS IS THE ONLY WAY OUT

[Read the article: Why Democrats are afraid to raise taxes on the rich]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I agree 100 percent with Robert Reich: we need to tax the rich at at least a 50% marginal rate, with a phase out of deductions and credits, as well, somewhere between $500,000 and $1,000,000. The only way this will happen is if we get public financing of all federal campaigns, to get money out of politics. It costs 100s of millions of dollars to run elections nowadays, and that cost should be borne by the government, NOT by private fundraising, as it is now. Because of the conservative Supreme Court, they have ruled that you can't limit the amount of one's own money that you can spend on an election. Therefore, you have to set up a system that will bankrupt the individual spenders.

  • IT'S THE RIGHT WING NOISE MACHINE, STUPID!

[Read the article: Hitlers, Hitlers and more Hitlers]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

It's the Right Wing Noise Machine, Stupid! (or should be the "Stupid Right Wing Noise Machine," which still runs the show as far as mainstream media is concerned.) With GMA yesterday having a "Bill O'Reilly" segment, etc. the RWNM is still as strong as ever, and even noiser than ever. I haven't yet checked to see if the Zogby poll is reality or not, but, if it is, we still have a very loud MSM-RWNM echo chamber to overcome. By the way, Glenn, you should not allow "Anonymous" posts on your blog. In response to your Hitler blog, there are a couple of "Anonymous" posts, one of which is quite offensive. If someone can't come up with a handle that identifies them, tough luck for them.

  • JOAN, SEND THE CURRENT VIDEO TO EVERY MEMBER OF THE SENATE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE

[Read the article: Here's what waterboarding looks like]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Joan, every member of the Senate Judiciary Committee should get this article and the accompanying Current video. Can you make sure that happens? At the very minimum, we need to make sure that Senator Dianne Feinstein, our very own Demo-Republican, gets the Current video.

  • MUKASEY IS UNFIT TO BE ATTORNEY GENERAL OF THE UNITED STATES

[Read the article: The sad decline of Michael Mukasey]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Blumenthal's article today was the nail in the coffin of Mukasey's nomination to be attorney general. All the Democrats on the Judiciary Committee MUST vote no on his nomination.
