  • HERE'S MY VOTES FOR COMMENTS

I’ve just finished reading all 32 pages of comments, and have the following awards to give:

Kudos to the following posters, for their support of Glenn Greenwald’s position:

To the following posters, I ask, “does the Supreme Court matter to you?” Because, if it does, a vote for McCain, or a non-Democratice vote, is a vote for overturning Roe v. Wade (which might happen anyway if Kennedy changes his mind) and a vote to legalize torture, “enemy combatants,” and other Bush illegalities:

The following posters, or “imposters,” have earned my “trash talk of the day” awards:

Glenn, your article today, probably because of its placement at the head of the Salon daily post, has a lot of different and new commenters, both good and bad. I again point to the MSM as the main problem that progressives must overcome. Without a vigilant press, as we had in the early 1970s, the issues of excessive corporate power will not see a groundswell of popular support. The majority in this country are “conservative” socially, but “progressive” economically, supporting Social Security, universal health care and progressive taxation. (taxing the rich more than they are taxed now) Also, if the issue is framed correctly, the vast majority in this country do not support a “war against terror” that violates the civil rights of all Americans and the basic human rights of any person. Up until now, the issue HASN’T been framed correctly by the RWNM-dominated MSM. We need to change that with our votes and our voices.

  • NICE TRY, KILGORE

Nice try, Kilgore, for taking on the mighty (and correct) Glenn Greenwald. Glenn is trying to take America back to the days when BOTH parties respected the Constitution. If Nixon were President today, not only would he not have resigned, he would not even have faced the impeachment hearings (in the House Judiciary Committee) that he did face. Today's Congress is a shameful farce of an institution that has been neutered by years of DLC "centrism" and Republocrat thinking, all funded by the same corporations that "own" America and run teh MSM. I agree with the comments that place the blame not only on the "blue dogs," but on the Democratic leadership in the House and Senate, especially Pelosi. If I lived in her district, I would vote for Cindy Sheehan, who has now qualified for the ballot as an Independent. I hope that her district shocks the world (or at least the U.S.) by voting out Nancy Pelosi.

Excuse me, but Al Gore is only trying to save the planet. So, let's drill for oil, burn more coal, and have another Three Mile Island or Chernobyl. In case you haven't noticed, we're having another summer with record heat. I wouldn't be surprised if, in the next ten years, the polar ice cap will completely disappear late in the summer. We're already at 385ppm (carbon in the atmosphere) and going up rapidly. It hasn't been that high in over 600,000 years. Of course, there are natural causes, too, but, it's hard to ignore the overwhelming evidence that humankind is directly contributing to global warming. We have the greatest opportunity to not only restore sanity to our energy use, but to restore economic sanity, as well, with a "manhattan project" of solar and wind projects. If Congress were to pass even a partial tax credit for solar, I would install the panels on my roof tomorrow! Every house and structure in California, Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico and other desert Southwest states should have solar power panels on their roofs. It's hard coming up with $20,000 to install them, without government support.

GG, you are consistently the best writer in the blogosphere. I hope that before GWB blows us all up in his preemptive war with Iran (read Scott Ritter's article on truthdig.com) http://www.truthdig.com/report/item/20080729_acts_of_war/

that you are able to get on some MSM outlet, say, MSNBC with Olbermann. Your view about voting for Obama, despite the misgivings that we all have about his sharp turn to the right, is correct. Your view about the "Blue Dogs" is also correct, especially in districts where a more progressive candidate can be elected. Your views aren't radical left, they're mainstream!

Kudos to the three of you for taking on the various RWNM trolls that still, like flies on shit, seem to hang around. Kudos especially to bystander for his comprehensive post replying to troll dice50's ridiculous statements about the FISA bill and Moveon.org. I agree with the general point of view that Obama is doing the best that he can to get elected in light of the takeover of the MSM by the RWNM. Witness the comment the other day by Mario Cuomo's son, Chris, on GMA where he felt compelled to make a point about a commenter (can't remember who now) being a "left-winger." Cuomo should know better, but, given the RWNM takeover, probably had to. We really, really need a "Spiro Agnew of the Left" to take on the rightward bent of the media. Having read Eric Alterman's "What Liberal Media?" and having watched the MSM since then, there's no question that the MSM won't bite the corporate hand that feeds them. Only thing is, will America wake up before having to suffer through a disastrous second Depression, brought on by the War with Iran.
