I'm with you, Orbitboy
[Read the article: Democrats may come to regret not opposing Bush on torture]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I made the mistake of reading Glenn's article first, posting my letter, and THEN reading through the other postings, so sorry for the double posting.
I don't know who Rob H. is, but he is probably one of the Democratic consultants that is running the Party into the ground. How can the Democrats possibly vote FOR the torture bill? Apparently approximately 30 of the Congressional Dems, including Tennessee Demo. Senate Candidated Harold Ford and Ohio Demo. Senate Candidate Sherrod Brown voted FOR the House version of the torture bill. Shame on Ford and Brown! Couldn't they at least abstain from the bill, or vote "present," if they couldn't bring themselves to make a principled stand on torture?
AMERICANS DON'T TORTURE.!!!! Democrats will look STRONG if they somehow come to their senses and stop Bush's torture bill.

BILL CLINTON, WHERE ARE YOU ON TORTURE?
[Read the article: Clinton vs. Bush: A foolish fight for the GOP to pick]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I hope that somehow Clinton reads this post, because he is certainly not reading e-mails that I have sent to him over the past week.
Bill, where are you in the fight on torture? It seems to me that as a Democrat, you should be 100 percent AGAINST torture, no matter how evil the "enemy combatant." Bill, only you can lead the spineless Senate Democrats out of the Rovian fog and into the light of the good and righteous position that "AMERICANS DON'T TORTURE.!!!!!"

Thought the vote was 65-35, with Stabenow voting against it
[Read the article: Senate approves detainee bill; Bush attacks Democrats as soft on terror]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I watched the vote yesterday on C-Span, and, to my recollection, Stabenow REVERSED her vote: she first voted in favor of the bill, and then changed it to vote against the bill. Also, to my recollection, Lieberman originally voted against the bill, and changed it to vote in favor of the bill.
I am in the process of writing a snail-mail letter to the 11 defectors. Shameful!!!

GREAT ARTICLE, KAMIYA!!!
[Read the article: Wimpy Rambos]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I read the various responses, both pro and con to your article, Gary. You have a great future as a Salon columnist.
Your position about the Democrats is 100 percent correct: unless they get cohones and go after Bush's "War on Terror," they will NEVER become the majority party. The only reason that they may win a house of Congress back at all, is the Republicans keep handing it to them, with the likes of Marc Foley being on the House "Committee for Molested Children." (not sure of the name, exactly) (talk about the fox guarding the hen house!)
Its not an issue of being "tough" versus being "soft." It's an issue of being "right" versus "wrong." Bush is 100 percent wrong, period. Terrorism IS a police issue, not a war issue.
Al Gore may be the person who can rescue the Democrats from themselves - he's just waiting for the right time to enter the race, right before the first primaries in January of 2008. First, he has an issue that is now extremely timely, global warming. In order to solve global warming, we must come up with alternative sources of energy, which will in turn relieve our dependence on Arab oil. Arab oil is of course the problem with the Middle East, with the Bushies trying to keep the Iraq oil for their oil buddies, and the Bushies looking the other way when it comes to Saudi Arabian democracy. What a joke, Bush and Condi talking about "bringing democracy to the Middle East!"
Second, Gore knows that the so-called "war on Terror" is best won by intelligence and smart police work, not by conducting endless war. Revisit Gore's Martin Luther King Day speech about Bush's illegal wiretapping:
Is our Congress today in more danger than were their predecessors when the British army was marching on the Capitol? Is the world more dangerous than when we faced an ideological enemy with tens of thousands of missiles poised to be launched against us and annihilate our country at a moment's notice? Is America in more danger now than when we faced worldwide fascism on the march - when our fathers fought and won two World Wars simultaneously?
It is simply an insult to those who came before us and sacrificed so much on our behalf to imply that we have more to be fearful of than they. Yet they faithfully protected our freedoms and now it is up to us to do the same.
Again, thank you for a great article, Mr. Kamiya; I look forward to reading many more!

KUDOS TO KAMIYA
[Read the article: Bush's Iran madness]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Once again, Gary Kamiya presents a well-thought out and comprehensive article on the horrible situation in the Middle East, brought to us by Bush-Cheney and the neocons. Having read the "Editor's Choice" comments as well, I must note that Bush-Cheney was not elected in the first place, but anointed by the Supreme Court in 2000, and most likely re-elected by shenanigans with the vote counting in Ohio in 2004. It is not unreasonable to assume that Bush-Cheney did not even win the popular vote in 2004, given the documented problems with that election.
That is why the most critical bill for Congress to pass this year, even more important than the Iraq War votes, the minimum wage, health care, and a host of other important issues, is Rush Holt's recently re-introduced bill on voting methods and electronic voting. Unless we have a system of fair and accurate voting, we are completely lost as a democratic nation. The 2000 election showed the limitations of "punch card" voting, and the 2004 election (and, to some extent, the 2006 election) showed the gross inaccuracies of "electronic" voting.
Again, thank you, Mr. Kamiya, for a fine article.

Good Article - GET WITH IT, NY TIMES!
[Read the article: The NY Times returns to pre-Iraq-war "journalism"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Good article exposing Michael Gordon's parroting of the Bush-Cheney line on Iran. GET WITH IT NY TIMES! - Don't allow any journalist to get away with mere parroting of Bush-Cheney lies.
