  • THE FIGHT HAS ONLY JUST BEGUN

[Read the article: Jihadis throw a wild bash over the Protect America Act]

Although I read the news this AM, with glee, that the House Dems refused, for once, to be goaded into providing Bush with whatever he wanted, this fight has only just begun. The fact that the "Protect" America Act will now expire really gives the Dems the time to do it right, WITHOUT TELECOM IMMUNITY! That what Bush, the Repubs, Rockefeller, Reid, and perhaps even Pelosi want, to cover their own asses from liability. It's high time that we get the MSM to report the truth of this story, which is NOT about "Protecting America," but about protecting the rear ends of those who failed to uphold the constitution and the law when they had the chance. Retroactive Immunity is nothing more than a "Get Out of Jail, Free" card. We need to really pressure the House to hold firm with it's version of the bill, and force the Senate to relinquish its more draconian version, especially on the issue of retroactive telecom immunity. Keeping leading the fight, Glenn. You are the key to this battle.

  • THE DEMOS HAVE FINALLY GOTTEN THE MSM TO LOOK AT FISA

The brave House Democrats who are going to withstand the "onslaught" of the "they're going to get us now" crowd (read: George Bush and the Republicans)are to be commended for finally moving the FISA story to the MSM. Just watched PBS NewsHour and was treated to Judy Woodruff moderating a "debate" between Steny Hoyer, Majority Leader, and Pete Hoekstra, the asshole Republican who I believe is on the House Intel. Committee. Hoekstra repeated the usual Republican crap about 'we're all gonna die' because the Demos won't give us what we want, which is unlimited wiretapping and retroactive immunity for the unlawful wiretapping that has already taken place. He also lied about the number of Senate Demos who voted in favor of the Senate IC bill, stating "27 Democrats" voted in favor, when, only 19 voted in favor. Unfortunately, Judy Woodruff didn't know better, and didn't call him on his mistatement of fact. (Nor did Steny Hoyer) I suggest that we all e-mail/call PBS and remind her of Hoekstra's mistake, and also remind her of what's really at stake in this battle: Bush's rear end. (not the U.S.'s rear end)

  • OBAMA MAY BE "SWIFT-BOAT" PROOF

[Read the article: A week of petty though typical attacks on Obama produced nothing]

Glenn, I read your daily post today about the sad state of politics and the mainstream media. This has been the case for some time, and doesn't appear to have changed for this election year. Nevertheless, having been converted from a strong Edwards supporter (originally a "Run, Al, Run" supporter) to an Obama supporter, I am cautiously optimistic that Obama can rise beyond the daily "crap" that is being thrown his way. Contrary to the implication in your article that he has only had a "week" of crap thrown at him, the internet "side-show," with blatantly false stories being fed to the MSM via Drudge and other slimy bastards, has gone on for nearly a year. It was nearly a year ago that the Muslim Madrassas education story arose, about Obama being educated in a Madrassa. (read: Obama-loving school) Not only did that story not stick, there have been numerous others that have not stuck, either. Maybe, just maybe, the electorate has grown weary of the endless "side-show," and will finally listen to a real discussion of the issues that face us, rather than the "he said-she said" version of reporting has polluted our political discourse. As other posters have pointed out, the Democratic turnout is nearly double that of the Republicans. Even if some of the Democratic turnout reverts to McCain, Obama still can win with a substantial majority. People are finally exhausted by the constant drumbeat of RWNM crap, and are desperately yearning for something new and different.

  • GO, GO, GO OBAMA!!!

[Read the article: Obama shows that dismissing slimy right-wing attacks is not difficult]

The more that I hear Barack Obama, the more there is to like. I read the full interview from which Glenn Greenwald got the Obama quote, from Jake Tapper of ABC News. (thanks to a blogger who put the correct cite in a response to Glenn's article today) Obama is clearly the candidate that we want, who will not let himself be painted into a position. Kudos to Obama for slamming Bush's warrantless wiretapping!!!

  • KING OUGHT TO BE ASHAMED OF HIMSELF

The FISA debate is not as complex as the Joe Klein's of this world make it out to be. It's simple, really: Do we allow our President to break the law, with impunity, and then allow him to permanently cover it up with a grant of retroactive immunity? That's the only issue that one needs to know with respect to the Administration's demand for "retroactive immunity." I am cautiously optimistic that the longer the period of time that elapses from the so-called 'drop dead' date of the expiration of the 'Protect America' act, the less likely that retroactive immunity will be a part of the final FISA bill presented to the President for his signature. I am especially encouraged by the fact that Obama has, for the second day in a row, lent his support to the Dodd's position on FISA.
