Tenacious Dumb
[Read the article: Right-wing blogger geniuses expose another journalistic fraud!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The Bush-worshipping blogs will never apologize for their egregious mendacity, because there is no downside, to them, for being proven wrong.
Not only is it because -- as has been mentioned previously -- their false accusations are meant to be revived and recycled, bouncing in perpetuity inside the RW echo chamber, but there is a strong element of anti-intellectualism in their behavior as well. For many in the RW blog audiences, being confronted by fact-based opposition to their fervently held beliefs dredges up painful memories of the burning shame and rage they've experienced repeatedly in unsuccessful debates over the course of their muddled, emotion-ruled lives.
The Reality-based Blogosphere is viewed by these people as a bunch of snotty, candy-assed know-it-alls. Folks like Ace of Holes wear their belligerent ignorance like a badge of honor, and the RW Authoritarians who make up their readership draw sustenance and comfort from the toxic, angry atmosphere.
Obstinate stupidity validates and excites them; after all, look at their beloved Chimpus Maximus.

Glox populi
[Read the article: This Modern World]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]My fellow Northern Land Massians, our Founding Sporefathers based our unique and special form of government on their strong faith in the Celestial Saucerians. They never intended a separation of Altar and State; that's why, when I'm elected, I promise to appoint only strict Traditionalists to our Supreme Horde of Tentacles. We must stop teaching the blasphemous lie of Mutationism to our impressionable spawnlets. And finally, we must remain strong in our Great War on Anxiety (GWOA), comforted by the certain knowledge that we are the Chosen Land Mass of Glox, and our Celestial Saucerians are stronger than the Enemy's false 'Alien Prophets.'
Thank you, and Saucerians bless the Northern Land Mass!

Joe Klein: smugly obsolete asshole
[Read the article: Various items]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]In the podcast -- which BTW seems much longer than the 38 years Klein repeatedly mentions he's been a pundit -- Klein vividly demonstrates his supremely self-impressed indifference to criticism.
It is just as obviously a front; he is clearly thin-skinned and betrays a childish anger about Glenn's stingingly accurate dissections of his columns and bloviatings.
He rivals Broder in his disturbing devotion to Teh Center, which is, apparently, "whatever the Beltway fancies." Left or Right, he constantly reiterates, he loathes them both. But when citing examples, he hates the Right for their views, and he hates the Left for irritatingly pointing out how lame he and his Beltway Buddies are. When Ana Marie Cox timidly challenges this averred equivalency, he stridently refuses to back down, then puffs himself up to gargantuan size with further reference to his years of punditry and enormous audience, before dismissing all who disagree with him as "masturbaters."
As amusing as the back-and-forth can be, and as important as I know Glenn feels the pushback against such conventional "wisdom" to be, I've concluded that it is just not worth it. Joe Klein will not evolve, learn or admit to mistakes. Engaging him only results in droves of angry readers posting useless unread posts on his Swampgas blog, merely raising its value to advertizers.
I vote for more al-Marri verdict analysis, Glenn. Let Joe Klein sink slowly back into his peat bog, to be discovered by archeologists a few thousand years from now. Hopefully, by then, his punditry career will have ended.

The Joy of Unfair Treatment
[Read the article: Lewis Libby owes his freedom to our corrupt political elite]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]@ mfjgates 2:19
I would add that there's almost an incentive for a loyalist like Scooter to lie.
The right wingers have always excelled at playing the victim ("reverse discrimination," "the War on Christmas," etc.). As a group, they are the biggest bunch of whiny-ass titty babies imaginable. Think, then, what an enormous reward and highest of honors this is for Scooter. Whenever he appears at some neocon gathering to speak, the crowd of scofflaws will be on its feet, shouting, "Huzzah!" Being eventually pardoned will only burnish his reward by igniting a brand-new flurry of attention to his sad predicament.
Even after years have passed, and the ovations have finally died down, Libby will still be enveloped in a warm glow of victimhood, which, if he's lucky, he'll carry with him to his grave.

IANA smartypants, but won't let that stop me

[Read more letters about this article: Here]The hell? Can they just DO that??
-- Presumptuous Insect
Yes. That is the essence of the Admin's "Executive Privilege" argument.
Whether they'll get away with it or not depends on what happens in the courts, as Congress fights them on their claim. Most likely, IMHO, Congress eventually wins, but after the Cheney Regime is out of office.
P.S. I like your handle, Grasshopper.

Glenn -- more, please!

[Read more letters about this article: Here]GG:
There are ways for Congress to act here in order to enable or even compel a court to rule on the legality of the NSA warrantless eavesdropping program.
I think some others mentioned this previously, Glenn, but if you have the time, I'd really appreciate it if you would expound on this further.
My feeling on the situation is that Congress' oversight powers are the only real hope for halting Cheney's despotic power grab in anything like a reasonable amount of time. Honestly, I can't see anything good happening until after the gang leaves office. I'm not even sure they will leave office, but we can try asking them nicely.
I see no hope for anything legislative being able to curb the WH; we just don't have enough Dems yet, especially in the Senate.
