And that, after all, is what most people will want to discuss. If that's not what Salon wants to report, that's their choice.

Give them time. You know that Salon's crack investigative team needs to read what every other progressive news site has posted, and then filter out anything that makes Hillary look bad, and then summarize the articles in their own words. I'm sure they'll get around to it by Monday evening, when it's no longer a story.

(Goodness, did I just violate my own no off-topic request? *slaps own wrist*)

After all that whining and baiting from the Obama camp and his supporters, it must be dissapointing that the Clinton tax returns don't look to be a big deal at all though I'm sure some of you will try and make something out of nothing.

Why do I get the feeling that this will be filed under "Famous Last Words" by the end of next week...?

Is this like an anti-fur thing?

  • Ferraro returns!

[Read the article: Americans more ready for a black president than a woman?]

Isn't this just a slightly more polite reworking of Geraldine Ferraro's statement that Barack Obama is "lucky" that he's running for president as a black man? You don't come out and say it, but the subtext of this piece is obvious: the reason that Obama is beating Hillary is because our society is more sexist than it is racist.

I understand that it must be extremely frustrating for educated, professional women who have fought all their lives for the respect afforded their male counterparts to see one of their own get so close to the brass ring, only to be trumped by a legitimate political phenomenon. I assume that many black Americans would feel the same way if Obama was the one who was fading and facing an increasingly impossible path to the nomination.

But here's the thing: I'm a straight, white American male of Protestant background, so the whole identity politics thing doesn't really light my fire. We've had a pretty good run of things as far as presidents go. I like and support Barack Obama because he seems to have a legitimately different way of doing business, and Hillary simply seems to be more of the same. I'm not against Hillary because she's a woman. I'm against Hillary because she's a transparent political hack who will say or do anything to get elected, and I think it's incredibly sad that so many of her supporters back her primarily because they share the same reproductive organs.

Ono & Lennon said it best:

How appropriate that your defense of Hillary Clinton would reference another woman who'd have no career to speak of if it wasn't for her husband's remarkable success and talent.

You say: "I'm not against Hillary because she's a woman. I'm against Hillary because she's a transparent political hack who will say or do anything to get elected, and I think it's incredibly sad that so many of her supporters back her primarily because they share the same reproductive organs."

I say: "I'm not against Obama because he's a man. I'm against Obama because he's a transparent political hack who will say or do anything to get elected, and I think it's incredibly sad that so many of his supporters back him primarily because they share the same reproductive equipment."

So, does that sound any less transparent - coming from a woman, I mean?

Well, I don't support Obama because he and I both have a pair of balls. But I certainly respect the balls it took for him to deliver a speech on race, the electrified third rail of American politics. I'm even more impressed that he pulled it off and got people talking about it. It's a small step in the right direction, and Hillary hasn't done anything that comes anywhere near it in her very short and unimpressive political career.

I find it hilarious that Obama's followers -- head-ups, eyes shining, wings spread open like birds, carried aloft with optimism and hope -- are the most cynical, most apoplectic, most venomous, and most uninspiring bunch of dudes and dudettes I have seen and heard since the 60s and 70s.

All this from the same gang that regularly decries Clinton's supporters as deluded, childish, hypocrites, racists, and lots of other oh-so-uplifting adjectives.

Yeah, well, you're old and bitter. And probably ugly.

    Nyah, nyah.

"established rules of the party"? I thought that Obama was supposed to be the anti-establishment candidate. The candidate for "change". Or is he only the candidate for "change" when that change benefits him?

Whoever said he was the anti-establishment candidate? I think that once you're a Democrat who's got the support of Ted Kennedy, you're about as establishment as it gets. And considering the support he's getting from elected superdelegates, I think the establishment has taken quite a shine to him. But congratulations on your 1,000th failed attempt to hoist Obama with his own petard. That's got to be some kind of a record!

Hillary wants every state to participate in the primary.

Well, sure, now she does. Where was Ms. Democracy's crusade prior to January 15th?

Do you usually launch unsubstantiated personal attacks against new posters as a way to welcome them? :)

Yeah, actually, I do. We've had a pervasive problem with Hillary supporters signing up for accounts just to spam the boards and not participate in actual discussions. It was a bigger problem before Salon finally got rid of the anonymous posting option. I am happy to see that you're obviously sticking around to contribute to the dialogue, though. Regardless of your opinion or which horse you've got your money on, it's always good to have new voices who actually want to contribute to a dialogue.

All right, you're not a board-spamming troll. Thanks for not being that. :)
