They're right
[Read the article: Politico: "Clinton has virtually no chance of winning"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I've been watching a lot of mainstream media coverage of the primary over the last month. Really, far too much. I've probably suffered brain damage as a result. And on all of the 24-hour news channels, they're treating the Democratic primary like it's still a horse race, when even Clinton's own campaign is privately admitting she has almost no chance of winning at this point.
I think that there are a number of reasons for the way they've been covering it. First and foremost, hardcore delegate number-crunching doesn't play well on TV. Thirty seconds of that, and everyone's eyes start to glaze over. Also, it's been rightly pointed out that the press has looked really stoopid a few times this year already by prematurely declaring victory or defeat (see the New Hampshire Democratic primary, for starters). And the Democratic primary has been a ratings bonanza, because it's history in the making. Black Guy versus White Lady, in The War to Settle the Score! It's dramatic, it's exciting, and people are responding to it. Replace one of them with Old White Guy, and I don't think it's got nearly as much sizzle.
On top of this, each of the news nets has their own reasons for not calling this thing. MSNBC got slapped around earlier this year with accusations of misogyny and bias against Hillary, so they're not going to lead the "Hillary has no chance" charge. Fox News would obviously like to be in a position where they can talk smack about the Dems as long as possible, without having to awkwardly embrace the black sheep of the Republican party, John McCain. And CNN? Well, it's been so long since I've seen actual reporting on that channel that I hardly think they'd know where to begin.

Hi Katmoon
[Read the article: Clinton camp goes on offense against Obama]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Congratulations on your very first Salon post! Always lovely to have another Shrill Hil Shill spamming the boards.

@ Hollywood Hawk
[Read the article: Politico: "Clinton has virtually no chance of winning"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The reason Obama didn't get knocked off his path to presidency is the way that he handled the Reverend Wright situation. Take a look at his Reverend Wright playbook that was recently published at:
http://www.qzaki.com/Archive/Obamas_Wright_Playbook.pdf
Yeah, that's not something you just threw together and claimed it came from the Obama campaign. Do you have any links to his Secret Plan to Destroy America while you're at it? How about pictures of the hollowed-out Bible with a Koran inside that he intends to be sworn in on?
And I see that you're another brand-new poster, the third or fourth one I've seen today. The Shrill Hil Shills sure are getting desperate. Or maybe you're just looking for a new home now that Daily Kos booted you out?

John McCain might actually BE dead
[Read the article: Politico: "Clinton has virtually no chance of winning"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Seriously. Have you seen the guy lately? Someone hold a mirror under his nose.
During the first Obama-McCain debate, I want Obama to let McCain go first and give his opening statement. Instead of rebutting, Obama should rip off his shirt and do fifty push-ups. He'd go up by thirty points in the polls overnight.

Bill, Bill, Bill...
[Read the article: Clinton camp goes on offense against Obama]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]On the campaign trail today in Charlotte, North Carolina, the former president said a general election matchup between his wife, Sen. Clinton, and Sen. John McCain would be between "two people who love this country" without "all this other stuff that always seems to intrude itself on our politics."
And by "all this other stuff that always seems to intrude itself on our politics," I think he means "black people." So uppity. Don't they realize this is a white person's game?

[Read the article: Report: Richardson to endorse Obama]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Richardson seems to be talking out of both sides of his mouth on this one. New Mexico went for Clinton, and Hispanics in the New Mexico caucuses went 2-1 for Clinton. If Richardson thinks superdelegates should "vote according to who they represent," who does he think he's representing?
I don't discount anything that you're saying. But in Richardson's defense, no one could have predicted that Obama was going to wade into a discussion about race in America and pull it off so eloquently. I think that was a real game-changer, not so much because of what he said or how he said it, but just that we was willing to say it at all. Race is the electrified third rail of electoral politics in America, and Obama handled it with incredible grace and dignity. Richardson says that it was the race speech that really convinced him that Obama was a one-of-a-kind politician, and I don't think it's unreasonable to take him at his word.
