FrontsNYC: "Leaving aside the fact that most of them tearfully worship a nude man nailed to a board...to these men, the idea that you could share a normal life with someone you actually wanted to fuck at some time in your life is a inherently threatening to the well-maintained facade they have managed to put up for most of their lives. I mean if I was married to the usual breed of hatched faced gorgons these types usually end up with, not to mention actually having a litter of equally awful children, I would definitely be striking a wide stance at men's rooms across America every chance I got, and I'm straight."

OMG please don't let it be true that you're straight. This is all too delicious and hysterical and absolutely dead right on and I want to marry you!!!! Just loved it! Maybe you could marry me anyway...we could figure out the sex thing somehow!
Xrandadu Hutman: "If a married man, with children, who leads life as a complete "family values" heterosexual, is having gay encounters every so often in secret locations, what does that make him?

Horny.
Wow, the level of judging other people for their sexual antics, their sexuality and their choices of sexual venue here on good old liberal/progressive Salon.com is pretty telling. I consider myself pretty far left, but I have to say that the judgmental attitudes expressed here are fairly typical of so-called liberals. You find out just how liberal you are whenever these kind of stories hit the fan.
I didn't care for Craig before he was caught tap dancing in a men's room. As another Republican who anointed himself an arbiter and judge of "family values" and proper sexual behavior, as someone who in part based his political career on judging others for their sexuality, who actively sought to harass and hurt them for it, he deserves all he gets. Not because he solicited someone in a public bathroom but that he has engaged in and attempted to engage in the kind of sexual behavior that he has sought to punish others for. And the people who supported him get what they deserve. I hope they can the bastard. The ickiest most outrageous most disgusting most damaging thing he's done here isn't soliciting another adult for sex, no matter where he solicited it, it's being a sociopathic hypocrite as he's setting in his office in the U.S. Senate. Despite what some of you insist, if he'd solicited a woman for sex, even in a bathroom, we wouldn't be having the kind of posts we're getting here on good old liberal Salon.com. There's always a layer of homophobia in people's reactions to these kind of stories I don't care what liberal/progressive credentials you insist you have. There isn't a venue in the world in which men haven't solicited someone for sex. Maybe the grave. A public bathroom is frankly one of the least weird places to either solicit someone or to actually have sex. What's surprising is that it doesn't happen more often. You're there with your pants down, your fly is open, your penis is hanging out, you've got your hand on it. Jeeez, are you people THAT numbskull?! Aren't you ever naked in your bathroom at home? Isn't the bathroom where most sane people associate being nude with? You've never had sex in your bathroom at home? What kind of liberals are you?
I've been in who knows how many public bathrooms all over the world, including living over 20 years in NYC, as an adult. I've never been in a public bathroom in which men are either having sex or soliciting sex and I'm a good looking gay man. (Damn!) So I've never had sex in a public bathroom, nor have I ever been solicited for sex there (maybe I'm not as hot as I think I am?). Neither have 99.9% of other men.
How much money are we spending having police officers set on toilets in public bathrooms waiting to entrap the occasional horny man? What totally demented nonsense just so some apes can feel all morally superior to other apes.
P.S. The most interesting place I ever had sex was in the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C. in the theatre while watching a film about an archeolgoical dig in The People's Republic of China. He was a married man and he was hot! O! Civilization!
ericurus: "Larry Craig should be able to define himself as whatever he wants. He and everybody else should not have to be piegonholed into being "gay" or "straight." These labels are not essential traits, as historians have demonstrated."
-------
That would be exactly right. When Craig insists he isn't "gay", I believe him. There are only homosexual and heterosexual acts, not persons. We all have our 'druthers' of course and what we like to do, at least right now, but when we insist that people wear this label or that label to define something as fluid as sexuality is over a lifetime, we get confused and start making up all kinds of silly laws and rules about it, both pro and con.
They called Julius Ceasar the husband of one and the wife of thousands.
His "children" are in their 30's for god's sake. They're not children anymore. If they haven't already, I'd say it's time they got a clue about the adult world. Don't ya think?
