@LondonLad and More

OK, you win.

Your amazing, original use of the term "Obamabot" completely undercut my entire argument. Kudos!

The left wing fringe seeing everything in stark black and white is no better than the Bushites who saw everything in stark black and white. There are shades of gray in just about every issue.

While I don't have a name nearly as clever as "Obamabot", I do decry those on the left who are so eager to see Obama stumble that they are as distanced from reality as Cheney/Limbaugh/Hannity. I am disgusted by so-called liberals who call Obama or any one who defends him names when he makes a decision that comes from his pragmatic side instead of his progressive side.

Other than a general distrust of Obama, what reason is there to doubt that the small number of detainees chosen for improved tribunals are not special cases? If it was just a continuation of Bush policy, it wouldn't be limited to such a small number. The idea of new tribunals does raise a warning flag and we need to be vigilant to ensure that the mistakes of the Bush years are not repeated. However, a warning flag is NOT cause for an uproar. As I said, if Obama moves to expand this process beyond the limited number of existing cases he stated today, then we need to fight. There is nothing to indicate that he intends to do that. We should take Obama up on his call to Congress and write/call our Senators and Representatives to discuss our concerns about the tribunals and get new legislation written that limits the scope and ensures a fair process. Taking action instead of whining may not be as fun, but it could actually do some good.

I think that one reason this news has been blown out of proportion is that it follows on the heels of the abuse photos decision, probably intentionally. With the left already pissed, what better time to toss this out there. No reason to ruin a good week with bad news.

Personally, I am not sure what the big deal about the abuse photos is. It clearly isn't an attempt to cover up the abuses that occurred. Obama has released a lot of information showing that we did torture and that the approval came from the top. Doesn't everyone know that we did it now? While I understand people being disappointed by Obama's reversal, I do have a question for them. What exactly is the benefit of seeing more pictures of the torture that we already know happened? While we could easily piss off the Muslim world one more time, that is not exactly a benefit. Is the push for their release an attempt to get people angry about it again to try and force an investigation? If people aren't pissed about the Bush years yet, don't hold your breath. If that is the motivation, why not focus instead on pushing Congress to form an independent commission?

Why bitch and moan (and fling idiotic, childish insults) on a message board instead of doing some real work to accomplish your goals?

This reminds me

This argument reminds me of trying to convince my family that Saddam had no WMDs and was not involved in 9/11. Most of the posters here are so distanced from the "reality-based community" that they would fit right in at a dinner table with Cheney and Rummy.

Any attempt at logic or rational argument is met by mindless insults and distractions. I played that game for 8 years and I don't want to play anymore. Extremists are extremists, regardless of whether they tilt left or right.

Enjoy your little pity party. I have things to do.

How is this mischaracterization better than Palin's?

Letterman didn't call Sarah Palin a slut. What he did say was perfectly accurate: that McCain/Palin/RNC spent a fortune to sexualize Palin during the campaign. This mischaracterization of Letterman's joke is as bad as Palin's.

As for the Bristol joke, she's a grownup now. Get over it. She got knocked up as a teenager and willingly let her mother use both herself and her then-boyfriend as campaign props. And as soon as the election was over, the baby's father was thrown overboard by the Palin clan. And in case you don't follow baseball/pop-culture/Madonna, the joke was as much at A-Rod's expense as Bristol's. The biggest problem with this joke is that unlike the first one, this one just wasn't funny.
