A Republican claim of voter fraud by poor people turns out to be nothing but hot air. I never could have imagined this.
On a more serious note, I am glad to hear that felons who have served their time are now allowed to vote in Ohio. Our justice system is built on the foundation that people can change. Once a person's debt to society has been repaid, they should have their rights restored, so long as the public is not endangered by it (as in prohibitions on felons having firearms or registering sex offenders, etc...).
Having said that, should someone convicted of voter fraud have their voting rights restored?
Jimmy Carter said over a month ago that gas prices would nosedive before the election. This is nothing new. It happens every 4 years (sometimes even in off-year elections). The lack of outrage can be partially attributed to a lack of shock. We all knew that this was coming.
Secondly, it is hard to get worked up about paying less for gas. With the outrageous leaps in prices in the last year, gas prices have been hurting a LOT of people. It is hard to feel much other than relief at the lowered prices, even knowing how shameless and manipulative it is.
I live in Tennessee and two to four weeks ago many gas stations actually had no gas at all. Even that story got minimal coverage in the mainstream press (CNN relied almost exclusively on iReporters, despite being headquartered in Atlanta, which had the same problems). Gas is now over a dollar cheaper here than it was when Ike hit. I think that post election, the Democrats should investigate the oil companies and their "every fourth October" sale, but for right now, my wallet is thankful.
Has Obama expressly stated that the Russian attack on Georgia was unprovoked? If he did I missed it and the rest of this post is irrelevant.
I was under the impression that Obama's swing to a tougher stance was based on the fact that Russia's military actions were far too aggressive, not that they were unprovoked. The sheer scale of Russia's attack demonstrated that the attack was well planned before the provocation. Russia was not "unprovoked", but it seems evident that they had all the plans and tools in place, just waiting for the Georgians to give them an excuse.
My understanding of Obama's position is based on that. Russia's actions in Georgia were unacceptable and, though they were provoked, the reaction was far greater than the provocation merited. In the time between Obama's "both sides need to show restraint" statement and his more aggressive condemnation of Russia, Russia was positioning troops in a way that suggested they might try to take the Georgian capital.
Yes, she should leave Trig in a hotel room while she works the lines. It isn't really healthy for a six month old to be exposed to so many people anyway. If she is shaking hands with people, she is picking up God knows what kind of germs and passing them to the kid whenever she touches him, which she would have to do fairly often when he wasn't asleep. If she can't leave Trig with a family member to work the lines, how is she going to manage as vice president?
Breast milk is easy to store. Having the kids in the same city isn't the problem. Using them as props is. She says that she can manage to be VP and a full-time Mom because of her large supportive family. Well, that family needs to be helping now. That won't happen, though. Trig is a prop and nothing more.
What Palin and McCain are doing borders on child abuse in my opinion. McCain wasn't the only one who had troublr controlling temper Wednesday night. I tried to strangle him through the TV when he started talking about Palin and her imaginary expertise with special needs kids. A six month old with Down's eats, sleeps and craps, not much different from any other six month old.
McCain crossed a line by making Palin out to be an autism expert. I know that she has a nephew who is autistic, but I can tell you that my brothers, my sister-in-law, and even my parents don't have a clue about what my life is really like living with my autistic 12 year old daughter. You can tell them things that happened, but they don't really grasp the strain that such a child can put on a person (or a marriage). If there is going to a cure for autism or Down's, stem cell research is the most likely place to find it. Palin's opposition to stem cell research makes her the absolute WORST thing that could happen to families with special needs children. This is a woman who cut a funds for the Alaska Special Olympics in half (half of what was requested by the legislature).
Too many typos in my post.
The issue is a personal one for me and angry typing is sloppy typing.
I hate posting things with errors. :(
